Named General Bursaries
If you are selected to receive a General Bursary the name of your bursary may be amended to a named general bursary.
- Only the name of your award will change; the value of your General Bursary assistance will not change depending on the name of the award
Eligible students will also be considered for named general bursaries open to students in any faculty or school.

David M. Beatty Award
Established in October 2010 by David M. Beatty, B.Com. 1982, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce Program in the Smith School of Business.
Tom Burns Bursary
Established by the family and friends of Tom Burns, Commerce '47, and awarded on the basis of need to a student in any year of the Bachelor of Commerce program or the MBA program.
Lieutenant Commander Clifton R. Tony Coughlin Bursary
Established in December 2008 by the Estate of Martha Hazel Coughlin in memory of her husband Clifton R. Tony Coughlin, B.Com. 1937, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of the Bachelor of Commerce program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
Geoffrey Martin Colley Memorial Bursary
Established in May 2015 in memory of Geoffrey Martin Colley by his family and wife Martha Emma Adeline Bouck (Colley), M.D.,C.M 1959. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Smith School of Business. First preference will be given to students in the Accounting Stream. Second preference will be given to students from one of the following provinces, listed in order of priority: (a) Manitoba, (b) Saskatchewan, (c) Alberta, and (d) Ontario.
Commerce '66/James R. Booth Memorial Award
Established in January 1997 and revised in September 2016 by the Class of Commerce 1966 on the occasion of their 30th reunion in 1996 and in memory of their classmate James R. Booth, B.Com. 1966. Awarded to undergraduate students in the Smith School of Business on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement.
Commerce 2000 Award
Established in May 2013 by the class of Commerce 2000. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, proven leadership skills, and involvement in school or community activities, to students in the third year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Smith School of Business at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
Stephanie Deutsch Award
Established in December 2005 by the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Women's Association to mark their 65th anniversary to honour Mrs. Stephanie Deutsch, honorary President of the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Women's Association (1968-74), and wife of the late Dr. John Deutsch, B.Com. 1935, LL.D. 1974, former Principal and Vice-Chancellor of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to female student(s) in the second, third or fourth year of a Bachelor of Commerce degree program in the Smith School of Business.
EY Emerging Leader Award
Established in February 2000 and last revised in October 2015 by Ernst & Young (now EY), a long-time partner to ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ School of Business. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, proven leadership skills and involvement in extra-curricular activities to students in second year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Smith School of Business.
Donald Gordon Memorial Award
The terms for this award are cross listed with named General Bursaries, Arts and Science.
Graywood Developments Award
Established in September 2023 by Graywood Developments LP. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and achievement to students in any year of a Bachelor of Commerce degree program. Preference will be given in the following order of priority: 1. to students with an interest in real estate management, 2. to students who are members of an underserved or underrepresented group as listed in the Ontario Human Rights Code (including Indigenous peoples, Black Canadians, Visible Minority/Racialized students, Persons with Disabilities, 2SLGBTQ+ individuals). Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards.
John Hamilton Technology Bursary
Established by John Hamilton, Commerce '63. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in any year of the Bachelor of Commerce program. Students are expected to use this bursary to purchase or lease technology products or software.
Alvin M. Hew and Family Upper Year Bursary
Established in March 2021 by Alvin M. Hew, BCom 1986. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in second, third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in Smith School of Business. Preference will be given to students who are the first generation in their families to attend a post-secondary institution.
Hutcheson Family Bursary
Established in January 2022 by Susan Farrow Hutcheson and Blake Hutcheson. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Commerce degree program in the Smith School of Business.

The terms for this award are cross listed with named General Bursaries, Arts and Science.
Richard and Janet Lint Family Student Award
Established in May 2001 by the Richard and Janet Lint family and awarded on the basis of financial need to an undergraduate student in any year in the Bachelor of Commerce program. Preference will be given to a student requiring emergency bursary assistance.
The Macklem Family Bursary
Established in January 2018 by O. Richard Macklem, BCom 1952, and family, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Smith School of Business.
Prangikos Commerce Bursary
Established in September 2023 by Nick and Virginia Prangikos and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Commerce degree program in the Smith School of Business. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards.
Ruth Harriet McKenzie Bursary
Established in January 1997 by her family in memory of Ruth Harriet McKenzie and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in any year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Smith School of Business. Extra-curricular activities will also be considered.
Carrie Mida Memorial Award
Established by friends and colleagues in memory of Carrie Mida, B.Com. (Honours) 1979, who died in a car accident in 1992. Awarded to a student in any year of the Commerce program on the basis of financial need, academic excellence and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
William E. Miklas Memorial Award
The terms for this award are cross listed with named General Bursaries for Student Athletes.
Ross W. Nicol Memorial Bursary
Established by his family, friends and classmates in memory of Ross W. Nicol, Commerce '75. Awarded to a student in the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program on the basis of need.
John Nixon Bursary
Established in March 2013 by John Nixon, B.Com. 1978, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Smith School of Business. Preference will be given to US citizens or students who live in the US.
Thomas C. O’Neill and Family Bursary
Established in September 2023 by friends and family in memory of Thomas C. O’Neill, BCom 1967, LLD 2005. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Commerce degree program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards.
¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Commerce Bursary
Established in June 2014 by the School of Business, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Smith School of Business.
Graham F. Saunders Award
Established in January 1997 by Paul Kinnear (BComm 1963) in honour of his friend and Queen’s University Commerce classmate, Graham F. Saunders. Last revised in January 2023. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Commerce degree program in the Smith School of Business at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
Sceptre Investment Counsel Limited Award for Excellence
Established by the Sceptre Investment Counsel Limited, an important partner with ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ for a number of years. The creation of this award demonstrates a genuine commitment to community support. Awarded to full time undergraduate or graduate students in the Smith School of Business who demonstrate a combination of academic excellence, financial need and leadership/community contributions.
Stevenson Bursary
Established in January 2020 by Tom Stevenson, LLB 1985, and Susan Stevenson. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Smith School of Business or any year of a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree program with an academic plan in Economics.
Robert William Surgenor Bursary
Established by the family of Robert William Surgenor, B.Com. 1947, and awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in any year of the Bachelor of Commerce program.
David Weegar Bursary in Commerce
Established in September 2019 by the Estate of David Weegar, BCom 1971, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Smith School of Business.
June Alfred Yee Memorial Bursary
Established by Mrs. J.L. Yee in memory of her husband, Mr. June Alfred Yee, Commerce '36. Awarded on the basis of need to a student who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident registered in the fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce program.
