- Only the name of your award will change; the value of your General Bursary assistance will not change depending on the name of the award
Eligible students will also be considered for named general bursaries open to students in any faculty or school.

Jacqueline Allard & Burke Paterson Bursary
Established in October 2020 by Jacqueline Allard, BA (Hons) 1993, and Burke Paterson, BFA 1992. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students enrolled in any year of a degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts 1951 Robert Wallace Memorial Award
Established in April 2006 by members of the class of Arts and Science 1951 in memory of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ eleventh Principal Dr. Robert Wallace, LL.1930, and awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to students in any year or program of studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts '57 Bursary
Established by members of the class of Arts 1957 in recognition of their 40th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a full-time student in any year in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts '73 Bursary
Established by members of the class of Arts 1973 in recognition of their 25th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a full-time student in any year in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts and Science ’78 Bursary
Established by the class of Arts '78 in recognition of their graduation and awarded on the basis of financial need to second, third, or fourth year students registered in any program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts and Science 1954 Bursary
Established in April 2006 by members of the Class of Arts and Science 1954 in recognition of the benefits of receiving an education at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. Awarded on the basis of financial need to students in the second year of any program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts and Science 1972 Bursary
Established in November 2007 by the class of Arts and Science 1972 and awarded on the basis of financial need to upper year students in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts and Science 1979 Bursary
Established in March 2008 by the class of Arts and Science 1979, and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts and Science '97 Bursary
Established by members of the class of Arts and Science 1997 in recognition of their graduating class. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a full-time student in any year in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts and Science 1998 Bursary
Established by members of the class of Arts and Science 1998 in recognition of their graduating class. Awarded on the basis of financial need and extra-curricular activities to a full-time student in any year in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts and Science 1999 Bursary
Established in April 2001 by the Arts and Science Class of '99, with donations to the ThankQ '99 Class Gift Campaign. Awarded to a full-time second, third, or fourth year student in any program in the Faculty of Arts and Science on the basis of financial need and involvement in extracurricular activities, which could include employment with a ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ organization.
Arts and Science 2002 Award
Established in May 2007 by the graduating Arts and Science Class of 2002 and awarded on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, and extra-curricular involvement to upper year students in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts and Science 2003/Eileen Krieger Award
Established in April 2007 by the graduating Arts and Science Class of 2003 in memory of classmate Eileen Krieger. Awarded on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, and extra-curricular involvement to upper year students in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts and Science Distance Studies Bursary
Established in September 2022 by the Faculty of Arts and Science. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students enrolled in any year of an online degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arts and Science ThankQ 2004 Bursary
Established in September 2008 by the graduating Arts and Science Class of 2004 and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to upper year students in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
ArtSci 1993 Undergraduate Bursary
Established in February 1997 by the Class of Arts and Science 1993 and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students who self identify as either Indigenous, Metis, Inuit, or as members of the African and Caribbean Student Association in any year in the Faculty of Arts and Science at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
ASUS Membership Bursary
Established in March 2015 by the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (ASUS) members.
David Bechthold Memorial Bursary
Established in February 2002 by friends and family in memory of David Bechthold, BA 1979 (Guelph), and revised in November 2021. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
James D. Canuel Memorial Bursary
Established in October 1984 by family and friends in memory of James D. Canuel, B.A.(Honours) '84 and revised in March 2021. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given to students involved in extra-curricular activities.
Class of '94 Single Parent Undergraduate Bursary
Established by the Class of '94 from donations made over the first three years following graduation from the Faculty of Arts and Science. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student who is a single parent registered in a degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Carl C. Ferguson Bursary
Established in April 2002 by Carl C. Ferguson, B.A. '37, and awarded on the basis of financial need to one or more students in the Bachelor of Science program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
46th Queen’s Battery/Royal Canada Artillery 1914-18 Bursary
Established in July 1999 by George S. Atkins in recognition of a group of young ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and Acadia men who fought and died in World War I. Last revised in July 2024. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to full-time students in any year of the Faculty of Arts and Science. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards.
Dean of Arts and Science Bursary
Established in October 2020 by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science through the support of alumni, friends and staff of Queen’s University. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of any degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Donald Gordon Memorial Award
Established in memory of Donald Gordon, a Canadian leader in business and government. Awarded annually to upper year students enrolled in any undergraduate program in Smith Engineering, the Faculty of Arts and Science or the Smith School of Business on the basis of financial need, reasonable academic distinction, demonstrated breadth of ability in and commitment to a field outside their program of studies and commitment to service to their community and the nation.
Katie Gundy Arts '50 Bursary
Established in January 1999 by Katie Gundy Stewart (Arts 1950) and John M. Stewart. Last revised in June 2022. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to full-time students in any year of any degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
Monsignor J.G. Hanley Bursary
Established by Monsignor J.G. Hanley of Kingston, Chaplain to the Newman Club of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ from 1941-58 and a constant friend to all students. Awarded annually during the Winter Term of the academic year to a student of promising ability but straitened circumstances in the second or later year of any program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Anthony O. Hendrie Bursary
Established by Anthony O. Hendrie, B.A. 1959, and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given to graduates of secondary schools located in the Towns of Collingwood and Stayner and the Township of Clearview.
Peter and Doreen Howe Memorial Award
Established in March 2019 by Stephen Howe in memory of his parents, Peter Howe, BA 1960, and Doreen Howe, BA 1961. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in any year of a Bachelor of Science (Honours) or Bachelor of Applied Science degree program.
Anne Shaw Hudson Bursary
Established in October 2014 by the estate of Anne Shaw Hudson, B.A. 1944, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to a student in his/her final year of an undergraduate degree program within the Faculty of Arts and Science at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
Investors Group Award
Established by Investors Group, a Canadian corporation that strongly supports education and youth development, arts and culture, and amateur sports. Awarded annually to undergraduate students enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Arts and Science or the Smith School of Business on the basis of financial need, academic excellence, and involvement in extra-curricular and/or community activities. Students must also have taken two or more courses in at least one of the following areas: finance, human resource management, sociology, or computing and information science.
Jean Knox and Paul Emmons Family Award
Established in September 2017 by the Estate of Paul Mott Emmons, B.A. 1979. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in any year of a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in the Faculty of Arts and Science with an academic plan in Political Studies or History.
Stephanie Lane "Pink Shoes" Memorial Award
Established in January 2008 by friends and family in memory of Stephanie Elizabeth Lane, B.A. (Hons.) 1994, and awarded to undergraduate students in the second year in the Faculty of Arts and Science on the basis of demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, and volunteer work with children.
MacInnis and Howey Families Bursary
Established in December 2001 by the MacInnis and Howey families, who have always recognized the importance of education, and value the fundamental and community learning which takes place at an institution such as ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a full-time student entering the first year of any undergraduate Bachelor of Arts and Science program. Preference will be given to students from rural and remote areas in Ontario.
John and Beverly McKerrow Bursary
Established in September 2023 by Beverly McKerrow and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given to students with an academic plan offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures or the Department of English Language and Literature. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards.
Milne Family Bursary
Established in January 2023 by the Milne Family and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of any degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
A. Dorothy Milligan Bursary
Established in January 2001 by A. Dorothy Milligan (BA 1947). Last revised in October 2024 and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of the Faculty of Arts and Science. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards.
Amir Moradi Memorial Bursary
Established in March 2021 by the family of Arts and Science student Amir Moradi, who was killed in the crash of Ukraine International Airlines flight PS 752 in Tehran, Iran on January 8, 2020. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to Iranian students any year of any degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Morash Family Bursary
Established in October 2022 by Robert Morash, BA 1984, and Anne Morash, BA 1983. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of any undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. Preference will be given to Indigenous students.
Dr. Gladys R. Munnings Bursary
Established by Gladys R. Munnings, B.A.(Honours) 1932, LL.D. 1976. Awarded to a student of promising ability in the third or fourth year of an honours program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given to a female student who is in need of financial assistance.
Samuel and Edith R. Munnings Bursary
Established by Gladys R. Munnings, B.A. (Hon.) 1932, LL.D. 1976, and awarded to students of promising ability enrolled in the third or fourth year of an honours program in the Faculty of Arts and Science on the basis of financial need.
John and Elizabeth Murray Award
Established in May 2002 and revised in February 2018 by John Murray, B.Sc. 1963, Ph.D. 1967, and his wife, Elizabeth Murray. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to upper year students enrolled in a degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given to students in a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree program. If granted to a student in second year, the award is renewable for 2 subsequent years provided a satisfactory academic average is maintained each year in a full course load and financial need remains evident. If granted to a student in third year, the award is renewable for 1 subsequent year provided a satisfactory academic average is maintained in third year in a full course load and financial need remains evident.
Leckey Family Bursary
Established in July 2024 by the Leckey Family and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year in the Faculty of Arts and Science, with preference given to Black, Indigenous, equity-deserving, or first-generation students. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards.
Lincoln Taylor Newman Memorial Bursaries
Established by family and friends of Lincoln Taylor Newman who died in 1992 in his second year of studies in a Bachelor of Arts program. Awarded to students in the first year of an Arts program on the basis of financial need.
Charles Bertram Ogden Bursary
Established by a bequest from Charles Bertram Ogden and awarded to a full-time undergraduate student in the Faculty of Arts and Science on the basis of financial need. The recipient must have completed at least four credits on a part-time basis and must register in full-time studies in the following session.
Hope Ross-Papezik Award
Established in April 2001 by Hope Carruthers Ross-Papezik, Arts ’48 and last revised in February 2024. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in any year of the Faculty of Arts and Science or the Faculty of Education. Preference will be given to female students who have experienced an interruption in their formal education. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar.
Beverly Pulver Bursary for the Arts
Established in January 2023 by Beverly Pulver, B.A. 1975, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of any degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. Preference will be given to students with an academic plan offered by the Department of Art History and Art Conservation, or the DAN School of Drama and Music. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards by 31 October.
Royal Canadian Air Force WWII Award
Established in April 2001 by George Spicer Atkins (Arts 1949), a Flying Officer in the RCAF, to honour the 18,000 volunteer airmen who died while serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, and to honour those who served and survived the wounds and stress of combat. Last revised in June 2022. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic excellence to full-time students in any year of any degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s University.
Geoffrey E. Shepherd Memorial Bursary
Established in memory of Geoffrey E. Shepherd, Arts'83 and awarded each year to a deserving upper-year student in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Murray Satov Memorial Bursary
Established in June 2022 by Reba and Gilbert Satov in memory of Murray Satov, BA 1989. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of any undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given to students in a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program.
Spaidal Bursary in Arts and Science
Established in May 2006 and awarded on the basis of financial need to full-time students enrolled in any year or program of studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Thomas and Mary Nesmith Bursary
Established in June 2022 by family and friends in memory of Thomas and Mary Nesmith. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of any degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Stanley Trzop Jr. Award
Established in February 2004 by Stanley Trzop Jr., B.Sc. '58, in loving memory of his mother, Zelia Trzop, his wife, Joan Edmison Trzop, and Joan's parents, J. Alex and Alice Edmison. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to a student in second, third, or fourth year who is pursuing studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Science at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
Donna Watts Award
Established in December 2008 in honour of Mrs. Donna Watts, Teacher of History at Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute (1962-1988), Honorary President of the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Women's Association (1974-1984), and wife of Dr. Ronald L. Watts, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ (1974-1984). Last revised in September 2023. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students enrolled in any year of a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree program. Preference will be given in the following order of priority: 1. to students with an academic plan offered by the Department of History, 2. to students whose address on admission is the City of Kingston. Applications are to be made to the Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid and Awards.
Samuel Weeburn Small Bursaries
Established by Pearl V. Small in memory of her husband, Samuel Weeburn Small, B.Sc.'25. Awarded on the basis of merit and need to students enrolled in any program in Smith Engineering or in a program leading to the B.Sc. degree in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Frederick Welch Bursary
Established by the late Frederick Welch and awarded to a student in the Faculty of Arts and Science on the basis of need. Preference will be given to the sons and daughters of mechanics, labourers and soldiers who are residents of the City of Kingston.
Shirley Simpson Memorial Bursary
Established by colleagues, students, friends and family in memory of Shirley Simpson, who was a staff member in the Faculty of Arts and Science for 26 years, an advocate for the non-traditional students. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a part-time undergraduate student in the Faculty of Arts and Science who has completed a minimum of 3.0 credits. Preference will be given to a student who has taken the majority of his/her courses through correspondence study.
Alan Tustin Bursary
Established by Alan Tustin, Arts 1938, and awarded on the basis of financial need to a student enrolled in a degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given to a student completing a degree program through part-time or distance education.
Gerald Finley Bursary in Art
Established through donations, and in honour of Gerald Finley, founder of the Department of Art, and awarded on the basis of financial need to students registered in a degree program with a concentration in Art History or Fine Art.
Merle and Philip Koven Bursary
Established in March 2003 by Philip Koven and added to by family and friends in honour of Merle Koven. The Kovens are passionate about the arts and have been life long supporters of the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston. Awarded on the basis of financial need to an upper-year student with a concentration in Art History in a B.A. or B.A.(Hons.) program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
John Cameron O Memorial Award in Fine Art
Established in February 2004 by Daniel Hyo-Won O and the O family members in memory of John Cameron O. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to students in the third or fourth year of the B.F.A.(Honours) program. If there are no eligible candidates the award can be presented to students in the third or fourth year of the B.A.(Honours) program in the Department of Art.
Murray Satov Bursary
Established in February 2021 by several close friends in honour of Murray Satov, BA 1989. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given to students with an academic plan in Art History.
Department of Biochemistry Bursary
Established in October 2002 from donations and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any year of an honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Dr. Su-Wen Chang Bursary
Established in April 2012 and revised in October 2020 by Dr. Su-Wen Chang, BSc (Hons) 1998. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree program with an academic plan in Biochemistry. Preference will be given to students enrolled in a specialization in Biochemistry.
Elaine and Albert Clark Award
Established in October 2020 in honour of Elaine and Albert Clark by their children and grandchildren. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in second, third, or fourth year of a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given to students with an academic plan in Biochemistry.
Mary Conner Hale Bursary
Established by George M. Hale, B.Sc. 1945, in memory of his wife, Mary, Arts 1945. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in the 3rd or 4th year of an honours program in Biology or Biochemistry. Preference will be given to a female student taking more than one course in the area of concentration.
Oldham Family Award
Established in October 2020 by Anne Oldham, BA 1972, and Douglas Oldham. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in second, third, or fourth year of a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given to students with an academic plan in Biochemistry.
Plumley Family Award in Arts and Science
Plumley Family Award in Arts and Science - Established by Kent Plumley, B.Sc.(Eng.) 1960, LL.B. 1963, and Sandra Plumley, B.A. 1966, and awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in the third or fourth year of the Faculty of Arts and Science with a concentration in English or Biochemistry.
Dr. K.A. Clendenning Memorial Scholarship
Established by Mr. and Mrs. Campbell Clendenning in memory of their son, Dr. Kenneth A. Clendenning, B.A. 1936, M.A. 1937, Ph.D. 1941 (University of Toronto). Dr. Clendenning's specialty was marine biology and plant physiology. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to a student in the final year of a B.Sc.(Hon.) program in Biology or to a graduate student in the Department of Biology. Preference will be given to a student specializing in plant physiology or marine biology.

JADE Award
Established in December 2008 by Douglas Ellenor, B.Sc. (Hons.) 1966, and Jo-Anne Ellenor, B.Sc. (Hons.) 1967, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in second, third or fourth year with a concentration, major, minor or medial in Geological Science or Biological Science in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Victor Gok Leung Lee Memorial Award
Established by Marguerite Lee in memory of her brother, Victor Gok Leung Lee, son of Peter and You Sung Lee. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic excellence to an upper-year, full-time, Canadian student in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Smith Engineering, or in a Biological Science program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Arthur Louden Bursaries
Established by the late Frances Drover Louden in memory of her husband Arthur Louden, B.A. (Hon.)'30. Awarded on the basis of need to students registered in a B.Sc. program with a major concentration in biology, chemistry or physics.
George and Mary Turnbull Foundation Fund Award
The terms for this award are cross listed with named General Bursaries open to students in any faculty or school.
Allen and Mary Lou West Memorial Award
Established by family and friends of Professor Allen West, a graduate of Massachusetts State University and Yale University, and long-time faculty member of the Department of Biology at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥, in recognition of his life-long interest in entomology, environmental issues, and education. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic standing to a student entering the third or fourth year of a biology program. Preference will be given to students specializing in environmental biology.
Department of Chemistry Bursary
Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in the second, third or fourth year of the Honours Chemistry program in the Faculty of Arts and Science or the Engineering Chemistry program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
Oren A. Earl Bursary
Established from a bequest by Oren A. Earl and awarded to an undergraduate student in an Honours B.Sc. program in Chemistry. The award will be based on academic achievement and financial need. Preference will be given to a woman.
Chris Ingold Memorial Bursary in Chemistry
Established in November 2006 by members of the classes of Arts and Science 1980 and 1981 and awarded on the basis of financial need to students in second year in a Chemistry degree program (SSP, Major, or Medial) in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Walter MacFarlane Smith Bursary
Established in April 2002 by family, friends and former students as a memorial to Professor Walter MacFarlane Smith and awarded to a student in the B.Sc.(Hon) program in Chemistry in the Faculty of Arts and Science on the basis of financial need.
Robert and Margaret McIntosh Award
Established through the bequest of Robert and Margaret McIntosh and from generous gifts in their memory from family and friends. Dr. Robert L. McIntosh, B.A. 1935 (Dalhousie), M.Sc. 1936 (McGill), Ph.D. 1939 (McGill) was Head of the Chemistry Department (1961-1969), Associate Dean of Arts and Science (1969), and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies (1970-1979) at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. He was also a distinguished scholar. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to a student in the second or third year of an Honours B.Sc. program in Chemistry.
Isabel Brown Buchanan Award in Classics
Established from a bequest by Isabel Brown Buchanan, a teacher of Latin and Greek at Lisgar Collegiate Institute for twenty-seven years. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to students in the final year of a medial or major concentration in Classics, who have taken courses in Latin and Greek.
William Dowsley Memorial Award
Established by Mrs. Dorothy Graham in memory of her father (M.A.1898). Awarded to the most deserving student entering the second or third year who plans to take a concentration in Latin. Should there be no suitable candidate, it may be awarded in years other than those stated, or in other concentrations offered by the Department of Classics.
Irene Joan Ross Bursary

Anne served on the University Council of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and as a member of the Board of Trustees. Professors For A Better ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Bursary
Established in March 1997 and revised in March 2016 by Lorne Carmichael and Susan Hara and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to full-time or part-time students registered in any degree plan in Economics, or Computing Science, in the Faculty of Arts and Science who have experienced an interruption in their formal education.
Ratehub.ca Award in Computing
Established in October 2017 by Ratehub.ca. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to second, third or fourth year students enrolled in a Bachelor of Computing Science (Honours) degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given in the following order of priority: (1) to students with an academic plan in Software Design, (2) to students whose address on admission is the city of Kingston, or Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, or Leeds and Grenville counties.
Isabel Bader Award for Costume in Drama
Established in November 1998 and last revised in May 2019 by Isabel Bader, LL.D. 2007. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to upper year students enrolled in a degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science, with a plan in Drama (including Stage and Screen). Nathan Richard Cowan Memorial Award
Established in October 2002 by family, friends, Smith Engineering, and the Department of Economics in memory of a remarkable individual, Nathan Cowan (1977-2002), B.Sc., B.A. (Economics) 2002. Awarded on the basis of financial need to second, third, or fourth-year students enrolled in Smith Engineering or the Department of Economics. Awarded normally in even-numbered years to students enrolled in Smith Engineering, and in odd-numbered years to students enrolled in the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Candidates will be student-athletes with preference given to a member of the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Sailing Team, who may demonstrate aspirations to participate at a higher level of competition. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in a Bachelor of Music program in the Dan School of Drama and Music who is studying: 1) violin, or 2) piano. If there are no eligible candidates then the bursary may be awarded to any student in a Bachelor of Music program in the Dan School of Drama and Music.
Brad Erion Memorial Bursary
Established in 1980 by family and friends in memory of Brad Erion, B.Mus., 1980, a student in the Faculty of Education at the time of his death. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to a student in the Bachelor of Music program, with preference given to a student specializing in composition.
Heather Hamlin Awards in Music
Established by the Hamlin Family of Mississauga, Ontario, in memory of Heather Hamlin, generous supporters of the arts and lifelong lovers of music. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to students in the Bachelor of Music program, with preference to third- or fourth-year students who have demonstrated ability in the area of musicology or theory, and/or demonstrated accomplishment in the area of composition. Selection will be made in consultation with the Dan School of Drama and Music.
Fanny Mendelssohn Award in Music
Established through donations of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Alumni in 1997, marking the 150th anniversary of the death of the great pianist and composer, Fanny Mendelssohn. Awarded to a student in fourth year of the Bachelor of Music program on the basis of financial need and outstanding overall accomplishment. Selection will be made in consultation with the Dan School of Drama and Music.
Graham Newsome Memorial Award in Music
Established by family and friends in memory of Graham Newsome, late distinguished amateur organist and music teacher in Montreal. Awarded to a full-time student entering second, third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Music or B.A. (Honours) Music program on the basis of financial need and demonstrated outstanding achievement. Preference may be given to students who have excelled in the performance and/or study of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Selection will be made in consultation with the Dan School of Drama and Music.
Herbert and Stella Overton Awards in Music
Established in May 1996 and last revised May 2019 by Isabel Bader, LL.D. 2007, in memory of her parents, Herbert and Stella Overton, music lovers and dedicated supporters of the arts. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to upper year students enrolled in a Bachelor of Music degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Preference will be given to students studying applied music.
Sylvia C. Small Prize in Piano Accompaniment
Established in honour of Sylvia C. Small, accomplished accompanist and transposer of music into braille. Awarded to a student entering the third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Music program on the basis of financial need and outstanding accomplishment in accompaniment.
Bethia Stewart Hamilton Awards in Music
Established by the estate of Bethia Stewart Hamilton, mother of Sadie-Lu Harley, B.A. 1952, and lifelong lover of music. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to students in the Bachelor of Music program, with preference to third- or fourth-year students who have demonstrated ability in the area of applied music, or have demonstrated achievement in the area of composition. Selection will be made in consultation with the Dan School of Drama and Music.
Telgmann Bursary
Established by the Telgmann family in memory of Professor Oscar Telgmann and his daughter, Mignon, whose contributions to the development of music in Kingston spanned nearly a century. Awarded on the recommendation of the Dan School of Drama and Music to a needy student in the Bachelor of Music program. In the case of equal merit, preference will be given to a student whose major instrument is violin, viola, cello or double bass.
Aileen M. Truesdell Memorial Award
Established by Nancy Fowler, B.A. 1998 and Robert Robson in memory of Aileen M. Truesdell, singer, dancer and pianist, whose musical talents and performances influenced family, friends and the community. Awarded on the basis of financial need and achievement to a full-time, upper year student in a Bachelor of Music program in the Dan School of Drama and Music, who has demonstrated commitment to music outside of the university music program through extra-curricular activities or community involvement. Selection will be made in consultation with the Dan School of Drama and Music.
Elaine and Walter Viner Award in Music
Established by Elaine and Walter Viner, public benefactors and outstanding citizens of Kingston. Awarded annually to a student in the third year of the Bachelor of Music program on the basis of financial need and outstanding overall accomplishment. Selection will be made in consultation with the Dan School of Drama and Music.
David and Shelagh Williams Award
Established by David Williams, Ph.D. 1966, and Shelagh (Courtney) Williams, B.Sc.(Hon) 1961, M.Sc. 1966, and awarded on the basis of financial need and academic excellence to an upper year student in a Bachelor of Music program in the Dan School of Drama and Music. Selection will be made in consultation with the Dan School of Drama and Music.
The Marilynne Charters Fuller Award in Philosophy
Established in May 2010 by Marilynne Charters Fuller, B.A. 1947, and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students registered in a major, minor or medial in Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

CFUW Kingston Club A. Vibert Douglas Award
Established in July 2011 by the Canadian Federation of University Women Kingston Club in memory of two women: A. Vibert Douglas, first Canadian woman to be President of the International Federation of University Women, one of Canada's pioneer astrophysicists, and the Dean of Women at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ from 1939 to 1959; Caroline Mitchell, B.A. 1926, a long-time member and diligent fund-raiser for the Kingston Club. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in any year in a Bachelor of Science program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. First preference will be given to students registered in third or fourth year of a program in the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Arts and Science; second preference will be given to female students.

Phil and Rose Quattrocchi Bursary
Established in 1997 by the Dante Alighieri Society, Kingston Chapter, to honour Phil and Rose Quattrocchi for their ardent support and enthusiasm in promoting Italo-Canadian culture in the City of Kingston. Awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in the third or fourth year in a concentration in Italian. If there is no suitable candidate in the Department of Spanish and Italian, the bursary shall be awarded on the basis of financial need to a student in the third or fourth year in Art History.
