During Mental Health Promotion week, we acknowledge and promote the amazing work happening across campus to support the mental health of our whole community - students, staff and faculty. Many student-led organizations and clubs contribute to the mental health education, advocacy and support at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ that happens throughout the entire year.
Classroom Champions for Mental Health
This collaborative initiative, created by ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Student Mental Health Network, highlights the necessary and valuable role academic educators play in enhancing student well-being. We hope it inspires people and programs at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ to advance student mental health.
Exceptional nominees will have their profile and work highlighted on the Campus Wellness Project website and shared online during Mental Health Promotion Week.

Identifying and Responding to Students in Distress
10:30-11:30am
The purpose of this online session is to help students, staff and faculty understand how to recognize when someone is struggling and learn what to do to support them. You'll learn about the dual continuum model for mental health and be given strategies to help someone who is in immediate distress and/or in crisis. Participants will gain practical tips on what to say and do so they can connect someone with the appropriate resources.

Creating a Customized Self-Care Plan
1:00-2:00pm
The purpose of this online session is to give participants a chance to examine stress management strategies. Reflecting on what you are currently doing and learning evidence-based best practices will allow students, staff and faculty to move towards developing an action plan. During the session, participants will be given time to create, or enhance, their own self-care plan including starting a new health behaviour within the next 1-2 weeks. Changing healthy behaviours can be hard but engaging in positive coping strategies is one of the more effective ways to manage stress.

Your Safe Space with Jungle Flower

The theme of this trauma-informed workshop is safety and relaxation. Together we will explore a writing exercise designed to help you connect with your own personal safe space. We will also do a somatic tense and release exercise and close with a guided meditation.

Affirmation Art with FizzKid Art

Join ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Services, Consent at Trent, and Hana from FizzKid Art to create your own affirmation art piece. This is a great way to create something beautiful as well as affirmation for your personal self-care. You'll need a piece of paper, writing and colour utensils.
Queer Survivorship - ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Reads
5:00-7:00pm
The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Reads Queer Kinship Series builds relationships between queer students, staff, faculty and other community members using the 2021-22 book I Hope we Choose Love by Kai Cheng Thom. ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Services will collaborate with Sexual Assault Centre Kingston to facilitate a discussion about queer survivorship.

Join internationally renowned author Roxane Gay and best-selling author Eternity Martis for an in-depth conversation about how we can address how we police ourselves as survivors to reclaim our story and push back against shame to create a space for healing. As survivors, we may internalize the lie that our pleasure, needs and healing are too much of a burden. Stories Spark Change is an opportunity to explore letting go of guilt and blame, knowing that sexual violence is never our fault.
