Named Awards
Students who apply to ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ will be automatically considered for named grade-based awards made available through the generosity of Queen’s donors. Should you be considered for a named donor award, your original automatic award may be replaced with a named grade-based award of equal or higher value.
The following awards have been made available thanks to the generosity of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ donors.
Prudence Austin Scholarship
Established in September 1989 by the Haldimand-Norfolk Branch of the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Alumni Association to honour Prudence Mary Austin (BA 1921), who retired in 1952 after 40 years in the teaching profession. Last revised in July 2024. Miss Austin was named Honorary President of the Haldimand-Norfolk Branch of the Alumni Association. Awarded to a student entering first year of any first-entry undergraduate degree program at Queen’s University who graduated from a secondary school in the Haldimand-Norfolk area. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to the student who has the highest average marks in Grade 12U or M, or its equivalent, English and History.
Nathan & Barbara Brown International Scholarship
Established in November 2017 by Nathanael Brown, B.A. 1995 and Barbara Brown, B.A. 1995. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to international students entering first year of any first-entry undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Hugh W. Bryan Memorial Scholarship
Awarded by the school authorities of Renfrew Collegiate Institute.
John Angus Carther Scholarship
The terms for this award are cross listed with automatic Arts and Science Admission awards.
Stanley T. Chown Memorial Scholarship
Awarded by the school authorities of Renfrew Collegiate Institute.
James and Margaret Daley Scholarships
Two scholarships will be awarded to students entering the first year of any direct-entry undergraduate program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. Awarded to two graduating students of the Regiopolis-Notre Dame High School. Each scholarship is renewable for up to three years provided the recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 2.7 (B-) each year.
Michael Dineley Memorial Entrance Scholarship
Awarded on the basis of general proficiency to a graduate of an Ontario High School with preference given to a graduate of Denis O'Connor High School in Ajax, Ontario.
Katherine Doyle Scholarships
Two scholarships awarded to students attending ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ from Regiopolis-Notre Dame High School.
Edmonton Capital Region Entrance Scholarship
Established in February 2007 by ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ alumni and friends in the Edmonton area. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement to students from Alberta who are entering the first year of any direct-entry undergraduate program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥, with preference given to students who graduated from a high school in the Greater Edmonton Member Municipalities.
Dr. George E. Flanagan Admission Scholarship
Established in October 1984 by Mr. George Flanagan in memory of his late father, Dr. George E. Flanagan (Arts 1916, Meds 1923), and Dr. Flanagan's sister and her husband, Beatrice and Clifford Wereley. Last revised in July 2024. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a student entering first year of any first-entry undergraduate degree program who graduated from a secondary school in Stormont County or the City of Cornwall.
Stewart Fyfe Admission Scholarship
Established in May 2022 in memory of Stewart Fyfe, BA (Hons.) 1949, MA 1955, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering first year of any first-entry undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Arts & Science. Preference will be given to students from the province of Saskatchewan.
Grant Memorial Scholarship
Established by Douglas A. Grant, B.A.'33 and Marjorie Grant Barber, B.A.'36 in memory of their parents, Fred and Flora Grant. Awarded to a graduate of Sydenham High School registered in the first year of any program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
D.A. and Margaret Grant Scholarship
Established by Douglas A. Grant, B.A.'33, in memory of his wife Margaret (Kerfoot) Grant, B.A.'30. Awarded to a graduate of Brockville Collegiate Institute registered in the first year of any program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
Maria A. Higginson Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student from one of the secondary schools in Renfrew, Hawkesbury or Vankleek Hill.
Eric Horsey May Scholarship
Awarded for general proficiency to a student from an Ottawa secondary school.
Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Lawlor Memorial Scholarship
Awarded for general proficiency to a student from Stirling, Ontario.
George Hopper MacGillvray Scholarship
Awarded for general proficiency to a graduate from a school in the United Counties.
P.C. MacGregor Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student attending Almonte High School.
Lena MacNeil Scholarship
Established by Lena MacNeil, B.A.'32. Awarded on the basis of academic proficiency to students entering ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ from Nepean High School.
Alex E. MacRae Scholarship
Awarded to a student from Glebe Collegiate Institute.
Duncan Byron MacTavish Scholarship
Awarded for general proficiency to a student from an Ottawa secondary school.
Peter McKinley Thompson Bursary
Established from the estate of Mary Kathleen Thompson Van Luven and awarded to a graduate of Perth Collegiate Institute, Perth, Ontario who is proficient in science and who will be entering the first year in any undergraduate program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
McLeod and McLean Scholarships
Two scholarships awarded by the school authorities at Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute.
Geneva Misener Entrance Scholarship
Awarded to a female student entering the first year of any direct-entry undergraduate program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ who makes the highest standing in Grade 12U, or equivalent, English, Latin, or Greek, plus one other language. Preference will be given to candidates from rural areas.
Joe Norrie Memorial Scholarship
Established by the North Bay Branch of the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Alumni Association in memory of Joe Norrie, B.Sc. 1926, and awarded to a student from the North Bay area who is entering the first year of any undergraduate program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ with high academic standing. The recipient cannot hold another entrance scholarship from ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
Megan Moores Nutbeem Scholarship
Established in September 2013 by the Estate of Megan Moores Nutbeem and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students from Newfoundland and Labrador entering first year of any first-entry undergraduate degree program.
Ottawa Ladies' College Excellence Scholarships
Ottawa Ladies' College was incorporated by Statute of the Province of Ontario in 1869 at the request of the citizens of Ottawa for the purpose of establishing and conducting a seminary of learning of a collegiate character for the education of female youth. Its first president was E.B. Eddy, and secretary, the Reverend William Moore. Its building was expropriated for war purposes in 1942 and it then ceased to function for the specific purpose for which it was incorporated. In order that it might use its assets for wider educational purposes its Act of Incorporation was amended in 1948 and it has now transferred its funds in trust to Carleton University, Ottawa, and ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ at Kingston. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering first year of any first-entry undergraduate degree program from a secondary school in Ottawa.
The Ottawa Women's Canadian Club Scholarship
Established in 1919 by the Ottawa Women’s Canadian Club and last revised in July 2022. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a student entering first year of any first entry undergraduate degree program whose address on admission is from the City of Kingston, Durham, Victoria, Peterborough, Northumberland, Hastings, Prince Edward, Frontenac, or Lennox and Addington Counties.
Robert B. Peterson Entrance Scholarship
Established in October 2003 by colleagues and friends in recognition of Robert B. Peterson, B.Sc. 1959, M.Sc. 1961, former Chair, CEO., and President of Imperial Oil, and his extraordinary leadership during the Campaign for ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ (1996-2003). Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering first year of any first-entry undergraduate degree program. Preference will be given to students from the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta or British Columbia. The award is renewable for one subsequent year provided a minimum GPA of 3.5 is maintained in a full course load.
¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ International Entrance Scholarship
Established by ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and awarded on the basis of superior academic ability to International students (including American students) entering the first year of any undergraduate program. No Separate scholarship application required. Four scholarships are available
Remo and Ida Ramella Memorial Award
Established in October 2011 through a bequest from the Estate of Amilcare Ramella. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students entering first year of any first-entry undergraduate degree program, who are from the regional municipality of Niagara, in the Province of Ontario, with preference given to students from the city of Welland.
Alexander and Alexina Reid McLeod Scholarship
Established by Donald I. McLeod in memory of his father and mother and awarded annually to a candidate of scholarship calibre proceeding to ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ from Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute.
Robert G. Richardson Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student attending ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ from Port Hope Trinity College School.
William Rutherford Dunlop Scholarship
Awarded for general proficiency to a student from an Ottawa secondary school.
John B. Sampson Scholarship
Awarded to a graduating student of the Regiopolis-Notre Dame High School entering the first year of any program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ who has a minimum grade average of 80% or equivalent. Selection will be based on academic standing and a strong background in athletics.
Mehran Bibi Sheikh Memorial Entrance Scholarships
Established in May 2007 in memory of Akbar M. Sheikh by his family and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a male and a female student entering first year of any direct-entry undergraduate program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. Preference will be given to international students who have Pakistani citizenship. If there is not an eligible male and female student, then the award will be awarded to two students of the same gender with Pakistani citizenship. If there are no eligible Pakistani students then the scholarships will be awarded to eligible male and female international students.
Simcoe County Scholarship
Awarded for general proficiency to a student from Simcoe County.
Storwal International Inc. Scholarship
Awarded to a graduate of a Pembroke secondary school, resident in Pembroke, who presents the best secondary school record.
Sydenham Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student attending ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ from Sydenham High School.
Sydenham Old Boys' Scholarship
Awarded to a student attending ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ from Sydenham High School.
Watkins Scholarship
Awarded to a student attending ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ from Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute.
