Automatic Education Awards

The following awards have been made available thanks to the generosity of ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ donors.

Students currently registered at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ will be automatically considered for the following awards. Most of these awards are based on grades. You will be notified by either Financial Aid and Awards or your faculty if you have been selected for an automatic award. 

Eligible current students will also be considered for automatic awards open to all current students.


Clair Bailey Scholarship for Language and Literacy

Established in October 2019 in memory of Professor J. Clair Bailey, BA 1960, an esteemed ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ professor and director of the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥-Trent Concurrent Education Program. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students in the primary/junior division graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree, who have demonstrated personal insight and a passion for children's literacy and learning, through coursework and in practicum settings. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Faculty of Education.

A. Lorne Cassidy Award

Established by the Rideau Chapter #523, Council for Exceptional Children, in memory of A Lorne Cassidy, BA (¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥) and BEd, MEd (Toronto). Awarded to the graduating student who best displays outstanding talents and interests in the education of exceptional children during his or her program of studies at the Faculty of Education. Awarded annually by the Education Faculty Board on the recommendation of instructors.

Chiltern Way Academy Scholarship in Exceptional Education

Established in September 2018 by the Chiltern Way Academy. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence in Exceptional Education to students graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree in the Faculty of Education. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Faculty of Education.

L.W. Copp Award

Awarded to the student graduating from the Primary-Junior stream with high overall achievement and who demonstrates the qualities of an exemplary primary educator. Awarded annually by Education Faculty Board on the recommendation of instructors.

Frank J. Fowler Award

Established by the Frontenac-Lennox and Addington County Roman Catholic Separate School Board in recognition of Frank J Fowler, a distinguished teacher in primary education and educational leader. Awarded to the student graduating from the Primary-Junior stream who best demonstrates the qualities of an exemplary primary educator. The award will be made on the basis of high academic achievement, outstanding performance in the practicum, and positive contribution to student life in the Faculty of Education. Awarded annually by Education Faculty Board on the recommendation of instructors.

D. E. Loney Prize

Established in honour of Professor D.E. Loney, an untiring contributor to the development of technological education in the province of Ontario, through the generosity of many teachers and supporters of Technological Studies education from across the province. Awarded to the graduating Technological Education student who has shown the most outstanding qualities of character and scholarship and demonstrated potential as a teacher. Awarded annually on the recommendation of Faculty of Education BEd/DipEd instructors and the Selection Committee.

Milton Frederick Pummell Scholarships

Established by Mrs. Margarette Pummell in memory of her husband, Milton Frederick Pummell, B.A. 1932 (B. Paed, Toronto), who was the Director of Education for the St. Catharines Board of Education and also worked as an adult education consultant to school boards on behalf of the Canadian Association for Adult Education. Two entrance scholarships are awarded on the basis of excellent teaching-related experience and academic standing to teacher candidates entering the consecutive Bachelor of Education program in the Primary-Junior option. One scholarship will be awarded to a candidate whose academic background is in the arts or social sciences, and one to a candidate whose academic background is in the mathematics, science or technology. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Faculty of Education.

J. Bolton and Kathleen Slack Scholarship

Established in January 2012 by J. Bolton Slack, BA (Hons) 1944, MA 1946, and awarded on the basis of academic excellence to students entering the consecutive Bachelor of Education program in the Faculty of Education. Selection will be made by the Awards Committee of the Faculty of Education.

John Deakin Buckley Walton Excellence in Student Teaching Award

Established by a bequest from the estate of John Deakin Buckley Walton. Awarded to the student graduating in the Intermediate-Secondary stream or Technological Education who has demonstrated excellence in student teaching. Awarded annually by the Education Faculty Board on the recommendation of instructors.

John Watson Award

Awarded to the graduating student in the Primary-Junior stream who has demonstrated excellence in student teaching. Awarded annually by Education Faculty Board on the recommendation of instructors.
