Queen’s builds bridge to B.C. college

The pathway to a Queen’s degree is much improved for some B.C. college students.

Queen’s University and Langara College have signed a memorandum of understanding  aimed at supporting transfer student success and encouraging attainment of baccalaureate degrees. The agreement allows Langara students who have completed Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees to transfer into year three in Queen’s Faculty of Arts and Science.

Although common among institutions in British Columbia, this partnership is a first for an Ontario university and a college in B.C.

“ֱ is proud to be leading the way in Ontario for developing increased mobility for students by extending our reach to British Columbia through great partners at Langara College,” said Susan Mumm, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Science at ֱ. “We look forward to the future possibilities that this partnership holds.”

The two institutions have also agreed to further discussions on academic transfer and to explore other activities of mutual interest.

“Langara has a long track record of preparing transfer students for success at B.C.’s research and teaching-intensive universities,” said Ian Humphreys, Vice-President, Strategic Planning and Business Development at Langara. “We are very pleased to partner with Queen’s to create opportunities for our students to transfer to a leading research university outside B.C.”

Starting with entry in September 2016, the three-year agreement creates a pathway for Langara students to transfer into year three of one of 17 programs within Queen’s Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Bachelor of Science (Honours), or Bachelor of Computing (Honours) degrees. Students must meet program-specific minimum GPA requirements and apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre.
