Outstanding students honoured
Faculty members gather to honour top students in the Faculty of Arts and Science
Dean Barbara Crow and her academic colleagues in the Faculty of Arts and Science gathered at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre recently to honour the top students in FAS. The 45th annual event is designed to recognize students on the Dean’s Honour List with Distinction.
“This event has been going on for almost half a century now, but what is really exciting today, to me, is that this is the first time since the pandemic that we have been able to return to having an in-person event to recognize our Dean’s Honour List with Distinction. It is so exciting to be here together tonight, celebrating together,” Dean Crow says.
Within FAS, exceptional students are honoured by placement on the Dean’s Honour List, a designation for those students who have achieved an academic year GPA of 3.5 and above for all courses taken in the Fall, Winter and Summer terms. The Faculty of Arts and Science has just over 14,000 undergraduate students, 5,184 of whom were placed on the Dean’s Honour List this year.
The students gathered at the Agnes achieved an even higher standard than that. Invitees achieved an academic year GPA of 4.12 in Arts programs and 4.2 in Science programs, or greater.
“Clearly, in a university whose admission standards are among the highest in the country, your accomplishment is a highly significant one,” Dean Crow added. “For some of you, this is your second, third, or fourth honour and you did this during a very difficult and historic time. I congratulate you and can’t wait to see where you go next.”
