Dr. James Fraser

Introduction

James Fraser completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo, his PhD at the University of Toronto, and postdoctoral studies at the Ecole Polytechnique (France). He has served as a visiting scholar at Harvard University (Cambridge) and NIST (Boulder). At Queen’s, he leads an enthusiastic research team exploring laser applications ranging from fundamental studies of nano-materials to solving industrial problems. Dr. Fraser is also active in physics education research, testing different pedagogies to improve learning outcomes. Dr. Fraser has won numerous teaching awards both at Queen’s (including the Chancellor A. Charles Baillie Teaching Award and the Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching) and nationwide (2016 Canadian Association of Physicists Medal for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching). In 2017, he was named a 3M National Teaching Fellow.
