Professional staff and trained peer leaders deliver a network of programs, services, and spaces, in alignment with the University Declaration of Commitment to Address Systemic Racism (2020), the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Task Force (2017), and the Campus Wellbeing Framework (2020).

Student Affairs Divisional Goals 2022-23

  • Complete Financial Aid Review and begin implementation  
  • Reintroduce comprehensive in-person recruitment activities while continuing online engagement opportunities  
  • Expand activities and reach of the Access and Inclusion team   
  • Introduce international admission awards for applicants from prioritized countries to increase enrolment 

 

  • Track the implementation of the Student Engagement Strategy and cross-campus actions resulting from the first biannual student climate survey (Student Experience Survey) in partnership with the Human Rights and Equity Office (HREO) 
    • Prepare and launch second survey iteration in January 2023 
  • Contribute to and, as appropriate, lead the identification of existing actions and recommendations on next steps to implement the Scarborough Charter 
  • Continue participation in the Thriving on Campus project to improve the campus experience of 2SLGBTQ+ students  
  • Implement recommendations from the Athletics & Recreation Indigenization, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Anti-Racism and Accessibility (I-EDI-AA) Task Force; launch Safe Sport initiative  
  • Co-lead, with HREO, the regular review of the university’s Sexual Violence Policy with a focus on formal reporting processes and procedures to help ensure alignment with evolving best practices

  • Maximize the reopening of student centres/units and in-person programming to connect with and engage QTBIPoC student communities, while retaining online options for students who choose remote engagement  
    • Expand Yellow House (YH) programming, services; maximize use of space 
  • Reintroduce in-person summer and fall orientation activities for the incoming first-year class, while retaining online education and social activities   
  • Enhance ongoing connection with, and wraparound supports for, Promise Scholars, Karta Scholars, Commitment Scholars, and Global Scholars 
  • Open Albert St. Residence; identify permanent name through consultative process 
  • Expand off-campus student engagement and partnerships with the city and municipal services to increase outreach, raise awareness, and promote good citizenship 
  • Open additional accommodated exam spaces in Mitchell Hall  

  • Continue implementation of Campus Wellbeing Framework in alignment with National Standard for Mental Health and Wellbeing for Post-Secondary Students, Okanagan Charter, Queen’s Strategic Framework, Declaration of Commitment to eliminate Systemic Racism, and results of the Student Experiences Survey 
    • Expand student-staff positions  
    • Enhance the Mental Health Champions program 
    • Pilot the Stories of Hope program  
  • Analyse and map results of winter 2022 student health and wellbeing surveys  
    • Share results campus-wide; identify action plan to inform health and wellbeing programming and supports   
  • Expand staffing and service options at Student Wellness Services (SWS) to meet student needs, including nurse practitioners, obgyn, TransCare team, dietitian, peer wellness navigators, Black-identified counsellors, and 2SLGBTQIA+ counsellor-focused programming and appointments 
  • Support the implementation of the VENTUS academic accommodation system to improve communication and implementation of academic accommodations, including exam accommodations, for students registered with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS)
  • Facilitate on-campus access to COVID-19, flu, and all other publicly funded vaccines
  • Maximize access to and use of the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC), including programming to support physical activity 
  • Continue leadership of Food Insecurity Advisory Committee 
    • Partner with the Alma Mater Society (AMS) to implement a pay-what-you-can market to support food-insecure students

  • Pilot the integration of academic skill development into course curricula  
  • Continue expansion of Queen’s Undergraduate Internship Program (QUIP)
  • Launch inaugural Alumni Roadmaps to showcase career transitions into various industries   
  • Deliver in-person convocation ceremonies for 2020, 2021 and Spring 2022 graduates at the Leon’s Centre​​​​
