Shelagh Rogers is the 16th Chancellor of Queen’s University, succeeding The Honourable Murray Sinclair. A veteran broadcast-journalist, she most recently was the host and co-creator of CBC Radio’s The Next Chapter, the award-winning program devoted to writing in Canada.
Shelagh is the co-editor of the 3 volume “Speaking My Truth” series about residential school and truth and reconciliation published by the Aboriginal Healing Foundation.
In 2011, she was inducted as an Honorary Witness for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, a life-changing honour; she has since devoted her focus to amplifying Indigenous narratives, voices and the truth of Canada’s history. Also in 2011, she was named an Officer of the Order of Canada.
Rogers has been recognized with honorary doctorates from eight universities, and she served as Chancellor of the University of Victoria for two terms spanning from 2015 to 2021. In 2016, she was the inaugural winner of the Margaret Trudeau Award for mental health advocacy.
Shelagh is a member of the Métis Nation of Greater Victoria, with family roots in Red River, Manitoba. In 2022, she was Symons Medalist. Shelagh lives in Winnipeg, where she is connecting with her Metis family.
