Life at Queen's

Life at Queen's

Queen’s is a diverse and dynamic, academically acclaimed university that provides students with an exceptional learning experience in a vibrant, safe, and supportive community. Queen’s engages our students, staff, and faculty in international learning, and attracts students who excel academically. With an entering average of 89.4% and world-class faculty who regularly win awards for teaching and research, we repeatedly rank in the top five of research-intensive medical/doctoral universities in Canada.

What makes Queen's a vibrant environment?

A key component of what makes Queen’s such a vibrant and engaging environment is the students, staff, and faculty, who hail from more than 125 countries around the globe. International students make up nearly 11% of the undergraduate student body, and help form a unique community that is dynamic in nature and diverse in outlook. No matter where you’re coming from, you have a place at Queen’s.

What if you want to travel?

Of course some students want to travel further. Queen’s has a robust program of international exchange, involving bilateral agreements with more than 150 universities in 40 countries, and also has access to a further 60 universities through consortial exchanges, allowing you to continue your exploration and studies as a Queen’s student.

Kingston, Ontario

Queen’s is based in Kingston, Ontario's small, historic city, and the two are deeply connected. The campus is nestled in the city's core, only a ten-minute walk to downtown, and because of its proximity, Kingston is a part of the Queen’s experience for students, faculty, and staff alike.

From tutoring an elementary or high school student down the street, to volunteering or working for one of the many shops and businesses downtown, to becoming friends with a neighbour (who also could be a professor or staff member!), being a part of the Queen’s community and the Kingston community are intimately intertwined.

Kingston is also one of the most consistently windy cities in Canada (take note, sailors!). While temperatures have been known to reach upwards of 34 degrees Celsius in the summer and as low as -34 degrees Celsius in the winter, on most days Lake Ontario has quite a moderating effect on Kingston weather:

  • an average January day charts a low temperature of -12° and a high of -3°;
  • an average July day charts a low of +16° and a high of +25°;
