Indigenous Students

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ provides a number of supports and services for Indigenous Students. There are also many ways to get involved on campus as an Indigenous student at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. Below you will find information for prospective students such as information about orientation day for Indigenous students or who to contact if you are interested in studying at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. Additionally, you will find information on Indigenous financial aid/awards, Indigenous specific student services and ways to get involved such as Indigenous lead clubs and societies. Our newly expanded Four Directions Student Centre (4D) is your home away from home – two neighbouring houses where you will find community, advice, support, and the answers to all of your questions.

At Four Directions Student Centre (4D) we have:

  • Social and cultural programming
  • Access to Elders and traditional knowledge keepers
  • 100+ events throughout the year
  • Full kitchen facilities, food, and feasts
  • Free laundry
  • Study spaces and lounges
  • Library, resource and meeting rooms
  • Cultural Counsellor offering one-on-one and group sessions

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ offers Indigenous candidates an additional and alternate admission pathway that includes support through the admission process.

The Indigenous Teacher Education Program (ITEP) provides an opportunity for teacher candidates to specialize in Indigenous education, and qualifies graduates for Ontario College of Teachers certification.

Indigenous Futures in Engineering (InEng) serves students through culturally relevant student success programs, including liaison with industries particularly interested in the development of Indigenous engineers through summer employment, internships, and permanent positions. In 2021, InEng launched an expansion of their student success model to include students from the Faculties of Health Science and Arts and Science degree programs. Through STEM: Indigenous Academics (STEM:InA), students have access to tutoring and exam prep sessions, along with specialized weekly programming and conferencing opportunities.

STEM: Indigenous Academics (STEM:InA) is an academic support and community-building program for Indigenous students enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) -based undergraduate degree programs at Queen’s University. Students are from the Faculties of Arts and Science, Engineering and Applied Science, and Health Science.

Indigenous and Allies Living Learning Community (LLC) in Residence

The Bimaadiziwin Ka'nikonhrio floor is an interest-based LLC where both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students live and learn in an environment with an emphasis on intercultural understanding and leadership development.

Queen's Native Student Association

A student-run club that brings together a diverse group of indigenous and non-Indigenous students who share an interest in Indigenous cultures and traditions.
