The Department of Political Studies at Queen’s is a medium-sized department with twenty-six full-time regular faculty members who teach in all areas of the political science discipline. All our members have active research programs and share a commitment to providing the best learning experience for our students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. A complete application consists of: (1) a cover letter including one of the two statements regarding Canadian citizenship/Permanent Resident status specified in the previous paragraph; (2) a curriculum-vitae; (3) a one-page, single space, statement outlining the applicant’s program of post-doctoral research; (4) a teaching dossier including potential courses the candidate could teach; (5) a writing sample; (6) the names of three referees, who will send letters-of-reference separately. The School of Policy Studies at Queen’s University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching a course in Intergovernmental Policy (MPA 814). This is an in-person teaching, graduate course with an expected enrolment of 40 students. Candidates should have a M.A. or M.Sc. or Ph.D, and teaching experience at the university level in a relevant area. This is a winter term appointment for the period January 1, 2025, to April 30, 2025, with classes in session from January 6, 2025 to April 4, 2025.

Course Descriptions:
MPA 814/3.0: Intergovernmental Policy
This course examines how policy making and the substance of policy are affected by federalism. Attention focuses on patterns of interaction among governments, and between governments and organized interests in Canada, and in other federal or quasi-federal systems. A major subject is how such patterns of interaction are affected by the structure of political institutions, the allocation of powers, and fiscal considerations.
MPA 826/3.0: Ethics In The Public Service
This course examines ethical problems that typically arise in the formulation and implementation of public policy. It considers how conceptions of ethical problems have shifted over time; strategies for thinking about and resolving ethical issues; and the design of institutional arrangements that minimize the risk of harm from ethical lapses in the public sector.
