Group III: Special Topics I

CliFi: Climate Fiction

Misty forest with mountains in the background

In this class we will delve into the burgeoning genre of climate fiction or “cli-fi” to explore questions of definition, form, history and function. How do we tell stories about climate change? Who gets to tell those stories, and why? We’ll talk about how fiction and storytelling fit into the wider climate movement and we’ll explore a range of works that grapple with the representational challenges of a problem as complex and all-encompassing as anthropogenic climate change.
