Lessons from the Longhouse: Haudenosaunee Wampum Teachings
Darren Bonaparte is a Mohawk writer, artist, and cultural historian from the Akwesasne First Nations. He is the creator of the Wampum Chronicles website, and a frequent lecturer at schools, universities, museums, and historical sites in the United States and Canada. Darren has written two books, served as consultant to television documentaries, and has written the libretto for the McGill Chamber Orchestra's upcoming performance of Aboriginal visions and Voices. He currently serves as the Director of the Tribal Historic Preservation Office of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe. In this presentation, he will use replica wampum belts to explain and demonstrate Haudenosaunee diplomacy and governance practices.
