A minor in Employment Relations provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to build and support innovative, fair, and high-performing workplaces. The minor also provides unique insight into the field for those who plan on advancing to professional studies at the graduate level (e.g., a Master of Industrial Relations).
The minor in Employment Relations is open to all ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ undergraduate students. In combination with a Major Plan in another subject, the Minor Plan (with sufficient electives to total 120 units) will lead to an Honours Bachelor Degree.
All students that have successfully completed 24 units or more must declare a plan.
- For first-year students going into second-year, the minimum GPA required to be placed on a pending list for Employment Relations is 1.7
- For upper-year students wishing to change their plan, applications are pending departmental approval.

A total of 30 credits are required to complete the minor program.
Core courses (Required)
Students are required to take 6 units at the 100 level.
- EMPR 100: Introduction to Employment Relations (3.0 units)
- EMPR 110: Workplace Communication and Interpersonal Skills (3.0 units)
The remaining 24 units (8 courses) can be selected from the following plan categories:
A. 3 EMPR courses at the 200-level (9.0 units)
B. 3 EMPR courses at the 200-level or above (9.0 units)
C. 2 courses at the 300-level selected from EMPR courses or approved EMPR substitutes from other academic departments (6.0 units)
Current EMPR substitutes include the following pre-approved courses: ECON 361/3.0; GNDS 321/3.0; DEVS 311/3.0; SOCY 336/3.0; SOCY 305/3.0
