Biography
Edward Gillis spent over 20 years as a senior leader at the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC). Most recently, he was the senior executive and Chief Operating Officer of PIPSC, a national bargaining agent representing 70,000 professionals employed in federal and provincial public service jurisdictions. As the senior executive officer at the Institute, he oversaw a staff of 220 and led the management team. He has negotiated multiple collective agreements as chief spokesperson for the employer following a number of years spent representing Institute members in labour relations matters.
Mr. Gillis is vice-chair of the board of directors of the Administration Authority of the federal public service health care plan, the largest employee benefit plan in Canada. Mr. Gillis co-founded and leads the Executive Directors’ Network, an organization created to bring together senior union executives to connect, share experiences and learn from one another. He is a also member of the board of directors of Upstream, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing individualized community-based supports to people with mental illness.
Mr. Gillis holds a bachelor’s degree from Mount Allison University and a master’s degree in leadership from Royal Roads University.
