Mike Fejes holds a BA (Hons) and an MA from the University of Manitoba and is a recent PhD graduate from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University, where he studied International Conflict. An infantry officer with almost 30 years of military service in both the regular and reserve force (including five international deployments and one domestic response operation), he is currently employed as an Assistant Professor at The Royal Military College of Canada. His most recent publications include: “Do Fears of Normative Commitments Influence Nominations to Senior NATO Military Positions? The Case of Trudeau with Vance” (co-author) in International Journal, “The Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserves and Aid to the Civil Power: Maximizing Service and Minimizing Risk for Canadians” in the Journal of Military and Strategic Studies, and "Returning Foreign Fighters: The Law and Implications for Canadian National Security Policy" published in Canadian Foreign Policy Journal.

- Civ-Mil relations;
- Canadian foreign and defence policy;
- Bureaucracy in defence decision-making; and
- Contemporary use of armed force.
