Enrolment for Summer Term
The Summer timetable is usually available in SOLUS around late November. Unlike the Fall and Winter term enrolment, you do not need to be given an “Enrolment Appointment Timeâ€. You will be able to enrol in your Summer courses in early February.
The Summer term is broken into three different sessions: May- June (6 weeks), May-July (12 weeks) and July - August (6 weeks). Each session runs at an accelerated rate compared to the usual Fall and Winter terms. As a result, you can expect double the workload when enrolling in Summer term courses, with the exception of any 3.0-unit courses being offered during the May-July (12 weeks) session. It is recommended that you do not take more than 2 courses at the same time during the Summer term.
Enrolment for Fall and Winter Terms
The Fall and Winter timetable is usually available in SOLUS around mid-June. You can begin to plan which courses you would like to enrol in for the upcoming academic year. All students will be given an “Enrolment Appointment Time†in which they can enrol in their Fall and Winter term courses. Your enrolment appointment time will become visible in SOLUS early to mid-July. You will not be able to enrol in courses until your Enrolment Appointment begins, but you can log on to your SOLUS account and start adding courses to your Shopping Cart to get your timetable organized.
You can expect your enrolment appointment to occur in mid to late July. Your enrolment appointment time is randomly generated according to your level at the University and cannot be changed. Before enrolling in your Fall and Winter courses, we recommend that you review course information, such as prerequisites, on the course pages of our website.
When planning your courses, it is important to plan beyond what is being offered for the next open enrolment term. We have seat reserves in place for our ASO DIST students so that we can ensure you have access to our online courses, however, these reserves are limited and scheduled to be removed on the first day of classes each term. Do not wait until the last minute to select your courses as the courses may end up becoming full before the reserves have been removed! Courses may not be offered every term, so you will not want to miss them when they are being offered to help you stay on your academic timeline.
You can download these planning worksheets to help you plan your course load. Planning Worksheets
Once you have enrolled in courses, you are academically and financially responsible for the associated tuition fees. If you decide that you are no longer interested in keeping your course(s), it is important that you drop your course(s) on SOLUS. See the resources below to help you. To learn more about managing your finances please visit the SOLUS Centre webpage.
**±·°¿°Õ·¡â€¯- Students who have started an Online Undergraduate Career with ASO are limited to accessing only online courses and are not permitted to access on-campus courses.
Prerequisites
When you attempt to enrol in a course that requires a prerequisite, SOLUS will look at your Queen’s student record to see if you meet the requirement. You will not be able to enrol in a course unless the required prerequisite is showing complete (or “In Progress†in the case of a co-requisite) on your Queen’s student record.
If you believe you have completed the prerequisites elsewhere, you may reach out to the Undergraduate Chair of the Department who is offering the course using your Queen’s email to explain why you want to enrol in the course. You will need to attach a copy of your transcript, include your student number, and outline your academic background with this subject area. If you receive department permission, you may forward their response to asc.online@queensu.ca so we can help you enrol in the course.
Note: The Department of Psychology will not approve prerequisite waivers for students who are in a degree program. Transfer credits must be posted to your Queen’s student record in order for them to be used as a prerequisite(s). For more information on the Transfer Credit process, please visit our Transfer webpage.
Retaking a Course
To re-take a course, using your Queen’s email please send us an email at asc.online@queensu.ca for a manual override. Be sure to include your student number and the course code.
Degree or Certificate Students
As a new student on a degree program, you do not need to start with a course in your program discipline. We recommend you begin with a course that would count towards your elective units, especially if it has been a few years since you have been away from school or have never taken online courses before. You may want to choose a course that will provide you with a strong foundation for future academic success such as WRIT 120 or WRIT 125.
As a new student completing a certificate program, we encourage you to plan out your courses based on a two-year period as we do not offer every course every term or every year.
Interest Students
Intending to Progress to a Degree or Certificate Program
As a new Interest student who wants to progress to a degree or certificate program, it is important to note that you are limited to enrolling in one course at a time in your first and second terms and you do not need to start off with a course in your desired discipline.
