As Queen’s continues to celebrate its Spring Convocation, the university presented an honourary degree to Otto Naumann, the leading name in Old Master paintings in North America, on Tuesday, June 6.
One of the most respected figures in the international art scene Dr. Naumann has collaborated with Drs. Alfred and Isabel Bader for their collection of Old Master paintings, many of which have since been donated to Queen’s, including three Rembrandts currently on display at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre.
Dr. Naumann is renowned for his exceptional “eye” for quality and for his skills in connoisseurship. Having made a name for himself specializing in Dutch and Flemish art, Dr. Naumann has handled more Rembrandts than any other living dealer and is the only dealer alive who has sold a painting by Vermeer.
