Initiative Areas

Beginning in fall 2024, the Queen’s Renew Program will focus on examining current processes and systems in several professional service functions across the university including:

  • advancement,
  • marketing and communications,
  • facilities,
  • finance, and
  • human resources.

The Queen’s Renew Program Office will work with leaders in these functions to identify existing areas of strength and opportunities for improvement in their methods and systems. In line with the vision for ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ professional services, the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Renew Program will work to create a professional service model that is effective, supportive of staff, flexible, and financially sustainable.

The first step will involve establishing a project plan and reviewing current processes and practices. Examples of Queen’s Renew Program outcomes may be streamlining unclear processes or standardizing systems across units.

Once that work is complete, the Renew Program Office will work with leaders in the identified areas to explore their service delivery framework to ensure it is positioned appropriately to provide effective, coordinated services that support both Queen’s academic and research mission and the staff who deliver those services.

It is expected that examining and improving current processes and systems in these areas will take one to two years, but these timelines may vary.

Several units across campus have already initiated efforts to enhance efficiency and made staffing and operational changes due to budget pressures. These changes will be acknowledged through the Renew Program process.

Consultation

Through Queen’s Renew Program, the university is committed to enhancing the work experience for Queen’s professional services staff and ensuring our professional services effectively support our academic and research mission.

An important part of achieving the future vision for professional services at Queen’s will be hearing from the community. A community consultation plan is being developed and more information will be communicated soon.
