Dear Queen’s community members,
As we approach the university’s bicentennial in 2041, we are invited to reflect on the enduring strength and purpose of our university. For nearly two centuries, Queen’s has navigated periods of challenge with resilience and creativity, emerging stronger and more determined to contribute meaningfully to the world.
Today, as we contend with significant financial pressures and changing societal needs, we have a responsibility to adapt to the realities of our time while staying true to the values that define us. To ensure a prosperous and meaningful future, we must navigate today’s challenges with creativity and determination.
In that spirit, I am pleased to introduce Queen’s Bicentennial Vision: A Discussion Paper. Building on work begun by over 200 university leaders last summer, and guided by the values articulated in the Queen’s Strategy, I have written this paper to begin a community conversation about where we want our university to be in 2041.
The discussion paper includes an overview of the planning that has happened so far, our financial situation, and the trends and opportunities we must consider as we develop a Bicentennial Vision.
I invite you to read the discussion paper and share your thoughts through our .
It will be important to engage the entire campus community over the next several months in shaping this vision. Additional opportunities to contribute will include town halls, focused discussions, and other forums for dialogue.
This is an opportunity for each of us to shape the future of Queen’s as we work together. Your voice is crucial as we define our shared purpose and goals for our third century.
Sincerely,
Patrick Deane
Principal and Vice-Chancellor
