Brief Description

Drs. Lynann Clapham and Kristine Spekkens are seeking a motivated undergraduate student to complete a summer internship under their supervision. The successful candidate will spend 80% of their time carrying out a research project on galaxy structure and evolution within Dr. Spekkens’ group, and 20% of their time designing introductory electronics outreach workshops for primary and secondary school students under the supervision of Dr. Clapham. The details of both the research and outreach components of the project will be tailored to the successful candidate’s interests and expertise.

The duration of the internship is expected to be 16 weeks beginning in early May. While there is some flexibility in working arrangements, students are expected to be available to work for the duration of internship. Students must be eligible to work in Canada, and they must be currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree at a Canadian university. Students from Physics, Engineering Physics, Astronomy, and related programs are encouraged to apply.

The monthly stipend will be commensurate with 2024 departmental rates:

Students completing :

  • First Year $2400
  • Second Year $2450
  • Third Year $2500
  • Fourth Year $2500

  • A one-page letter that states your interest in the position and highlighting any relevant qualifications such as previous research experience, organisational contributions or initiatives undertaken, education and outreach experience, and/or technical skills (such as computer programming or circuit design);
  • A CV that includes relevant employment experience as well as the name of at least one individual who could provide a reference for this position upon request.
