This past summer, the department sponsored one of our Engineering Physics students, Claire Floras, to travel to Germany for the summer. Here is her experience in her own words.

This past summer I had the incredible opportunity to spend four months in Germany on a scholarship as a research intern. I worked at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) where I researched Lithium-Ion batteries for electric vehicles. My work mainly focused on characterizing the ageing and failure mechanisms of commercial cells and gave me valuable insight into the emerging field of battery research.

While living in southern Germany I also had the opportunity to become fully immersed in German culture. I took language classes, made friends with other German and international students, and took every opportunity to travel in the surrounding areas and in Europe. I learned so much from my time living and working abroad, and I am very grateful to have had this opportunity.
