Christopher is a first year PhD student working under the supervision of Dr. Amitava Chowdhury. His doctoral research examines race in nineteenth-century British Honduras (Belize) during the Caste War of Yucatán. More specifically, it looks at how administrators and entrepreneurs attempted to practically and ideologically incorporate Caste War refugees into the colony’s timber-based economy. It also explores how the inhabitants of this imperial frontier continually thwarted neighboring states’ attempts to make sense of their complex social reality and dominate them.
