Bader College

Graduate students in History at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ have valuable opportunities to spend part of their program abroad.

Bader College

History PhD candidates have the opportunity to apply for Graduate Fellowships at Bader College at Herstmonceux Castle, in Hailsham, East Sussex, UK.

These positions offer a salary, four months’ free accommodation at the Bader College campus, and a research stipend for travel within the UK. The successful candidate(s) will have an exciting opportunity to do research for their dissertation in London or elsewhere in the UK; to gain teaching experience by delivering their own course or working with the BADR 100/BADR 101 teaching team to deliver a first-year course; and to contribute to the intellectual life of the Bader College campus.

History PhD candidates in their third or fourth year of studies who have demonstrated proficiency in teaching and who will benefit from doing research in the UK are eligible and encouraged to apply.

University of London - Birkbeck College

The Department of History has an arrangement with , Faculty of History, University of London that provides ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ History PhD students with the opportunity to spend six months in London (January-June).

Students would become visiting students at Birkbeck College and would have the benefits and services of regular Birkbeck students: for example, library, internet, having a Birkbeck supervisor who would meet with you and read your work, the opportunity to give a paper in a spring research seminar at Birkbeck. You would also have access to all the seminars at the Institute of Historical Research, though these are already open to you as a ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ student.

Tuition is approximately £4000 for six months. There is a fellowship available for which applicants will be considered as part of their application to the Visiting Studentship program. It is possible to apply for a waiver for your ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ tuition fees since you would be paying tuition elsewhere. To apply for this waiver, please write to Monica Corbett, Registrar of the SGS.

You will need to furnish a letter from your supervisor and from the Graduate Chair, and a research proposal (indicating clearly that you are applying for the Visiting Research Students Scheme HCA). In your statement please include with whom you would like to work and what you think you might gain by six months in the UK.
