I am a first-year M.A. student researching the history of Canadian-Cuban international relations. I believe it is crucial to understand how countries can maintain diplomatic relationships despite being different ideologically. I visited Cuba in 2016 and have been fascinated with the country's history since then. My supervisor, Karen Dubinsky, has extensive knowledge of Canadian-Cuban cultural relations, which will be detrimental to my studies—following my M.A. I plan to pursue a Ph.D. studying Cuba's influence during the Cold War in Latin America.
