I am interested in examining the experiences of marginalized groups in Early Modern European areas, specifically to develop an understanding of how England used social structures to maintain liminal spaces and the boundaries of belonging, which contributed to the stigmatization and marginalization of itinerants, vagabonds and vagrants, and by association the Romani people. I am very keen to continue this research, while also demonstrating how anti-Semitic attitudes in medieval and early modern England filtered into normative cultural and social patterns; which created space for the development and perpetuation of anti-Gypsyism; the last acceptable form of racism.
