PhD Candidate Joanne Archibald Awarded the Donald S. Rickard Fellowship for Third Consecutive Year

Joanne Archibald (PhD Candidate) has been awarded the 2024-2025 Donald S. Rickard Fellowship in Canadian-American Studies. Joanne has been awarded the fellowship for three years in a row. 

The fellowship (valued at $20,000) is awarded to students studying Canadian-American relations in any capacity and will support Joanne’s work in the 2024-2025 academic year. Joanne is completing her PhD under the supervision of Dr. Allan English. Her PhD research focuses on the growth of the Canadian military in the early Cold War (1948-1956), the development of an intimate continental defence relationship with the United States, and how Louis St. Laurent’s government used Canada’s military to advance his vision for the nation.
