The course looks at the integration of forensic sciences and crime detection in the British Empire. Focusing on 19th and 20th century, the seminar looks at the changing functions of policing, integration of new methods in crime detection, evolution of medical jurisprudence, and the growth of forensic psychiatry. The course will also delve deeply into the history of autopsy and analyze the role of gender, race, and class and how it affected the legal structure of the Empire.
