I received an Honours History (English Minor) in 1963 and returned to Queens in 1968 to do an MA with Dr Keppel Jones as my thesis supervisor. (Received 1970.)
What have I done with all this education?
I taught History in High Schools for 25 years (10 in Ontario and 15 in England). Having been an examiner for a number of years, I am still marking A levels for Cambridge International Examinations and examining for International Baccalaureate for the Extended Essay and Paper 3 (Americas). The latter is really the only time I am able to read any Canadian History (and that is rarely). I did find a copy of the Penguin History of Canda this week in the Nottingham Waterstones Book Shop and nearly yelled out to tell everyone in there buying the latest celebrity book.
Mostly my history teaching is a lecture to the unfortunate rambler who happens to be walking beside me in the mud of Lincolnshire or the hills of the Peak District. But I shall never regret studying History and am grateful to Queens for all the inspiration.
