I currently teach at Glebe Collegiate in Ottawa.
I was just awarded the Governor General's Award for the teaching of Canadian History for the integration of Historical Thinking into my classes with an introductory unit, a school-based WWII memorial and an oral exam.
I learned so much from the innovative approach at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ of having small group seminars even (especially) in first year classes and the emphasis on examining primary sources and doing archival research. I feel it is important and necessary to bring this to students at the secondary level so that they are actually doing the real work of history, not just learning facts, names and dates in a grand narrative.
