Women’s squash team repeats as OUA champs

The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Gaels women's squash team was successful in repeating as the OUA champions after finishing 5-0, along with a 90-5 record over their matches and outscoring their opponents 1,030-475.
The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ women captured their 12th OUA title overall. The Gaels went undefeated with a 5-0 record. On the final day, ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ defeated Toronto to capture the gold medal.
The men’s team went 1-5 at the provincial tournament to finish in sixth place. The Gaels’ Cameron Butler was named OUA Men’s Rookie of the Year.
Men’s Volleyball
Although the No. 8 Queen’s Gaels men’s volleyball team (11-4) claimed the opening set, the Ryerson Rams (12-4) roared back for the four-set win 22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 Saturday night.
It was a big night for Marko Dakic as he chalked up 20 kills. Setter Jamie Wright supported the team with 37 assists.
On Friday, the Gaels were victorious, topping the Toronto Varsity Blues (8-7) in four sets 25-23, 14-25, 25-16, 25-23 in Toronto.
¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ had big nights from Dakic who finished with 18 kills and nine digs while Mike Tomlinson added 14 kills and 12 digs. Wright contributed a game-high 49 assists for ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
Women’s Volleyball
The Queen’s Gaels women’s volleyball team (8-7) put up a valiant fight but lost a five-set marathon against the Ryerson Rams (11-2) on Saturday night in Toronto 25-27, 27-29, 25-16, 26-24, 15-12.
Caroline Livingston and Shannon Neville led the Gaels with Livingston finishing with 20 kills and 12 digs while Neville contributed 19 kills and 21 digs of her own. Libero Becky Wilson matched Neville with 21 digs in the match.
The Gaels lost on Friday against the No. 3 Toronto Varsity Blues (13-0) in straight sets 25-16, 25-18, 25-17. Neville finished with her nine kills and 10 digs. Wilson picked up 19 digs for ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
Women’s Basketball
The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Gaels women's basketball team (9-3) lost its second game in as many nights on Saturday, dropping an 86-66 decision to the Carleton Ravens. Marianne Alarie scored 17 points in 23 minutes off the bench for the Gaels, who now sit tied with the Ryerson Rams for first place in the OUA East division. Andrea Priamo added 15 points.
On Friday, the No. 10 Gaels dropped a nail-biter to the No. 9 Ottawa Gee-Gees 46-44. Priamo scored a team-best of 11 point and added a game-high 11 rebounds to pick up a double-double for the Gaels, while Jenny Wright added 10 points and 10 boards in a losing cause.
Men’s Basketball
The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Gaels men's basketball (7-5) team battled hard, but came up short against one of the top teams in the country on Saturday, falling to the No. 3 Carleton Ravens by a score of 99-81. Sukhpreet Singh had a sensational game for the Gaels, dropping a career-high 39 points with six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Tanner Graham added 11 points.
A night earlier the Gaels lost to the No. 2 Ottawa Gee-Gees 76-60. Singh led the way with 18 points along with six rebounds and two assists for the Gaels
Women’s Hockey
The Queen’s Gaels women’s hockey team (9-2-5-2) scored four unanswered goals to complete the comeback and beat the UOIT Ridgebacks (4-1-13-2) 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. Trailing 3-0 the Gaels rallied with a pair of goals from Katrina Manoukarakis along with Kyla Crouse. Manoukarakis made it a hat-trick in double-overtime with the winner.
On Saturday, the Gaels were unable to hold back the high-powered the No. 1 CIS-ranked Guelph Gryphons (13-3-2-1), falling 3-0 at home. Prior to the opening faceoff, ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ honoured their senior class of players in a special ceremony. Danielle Girard , Taryn Pilon, Courtenay Jacklin, Alisha Sealey, Caitlyn Lahonen, and Mary Coughlin were all on honoured prior to puck drop.
Men’s Hockey
The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Gaels men’s hockey team (14-7-1) scored two early goals, but fell 3-2 to the No.6 CIS-ranked McGill Redmen (20-5-1) in Montreal Saturday. Andrew Wiebe and Patrick McGillis gave the Gaels the early lead but the Redmen battled back, scoring the winner in the third period.
On Friday, Kevin Bailie starred with a shutout as the Gaels upended the No .8-ranked Carleton Ravens (18-6-0) 2-0 at the Memorial Centre. Bailie turned away all 39 shots.
