Thousands of students attended the ASUS Sidewalk Sale this past Saturday.

University Avenue was bustling over the weekend as the ASUS Sidewalk Sale had approximately 230 booths lining the street, where students could connect with resources and clubs at Queen’s as well as Kingston businesses, services, and non-profit organizations. Through the proceeds of the event, the Sidewalk Sale raised more than $26,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

“The Sidewalk Sale is a great opportunity for new and returning Queen’s students that helps them learn about the Kingston community and give back to it through the donated proceeds," says Georgia Dean-Savage, Head Gael, Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (ASUS). "It was exciting to see thousands of people on University Avenue checking out the booths over the weekend and making meaningful connections across the campus and the broader community."

Queen’s clubs, departments, and services had a strong presence at the sale, helping students understand how to connect with resources that will help them thrive at university and build community together with their Kingston neighbours.

Representatives from municipal and community partners such as The City of Kingston and Kingston Fire and Rescue were on hand to meet with students, welcome them to their new home, and help them learn about life in Kingston.

The Sidewalk Sale is organized each year by ASUS as part of its faculty orientation. While most faculty orientation events are for first-year students in specific programs, the ASUS Sidewalk Sale is aimed at everyone. Planning for the event began in January to ensure the sale could provide a positive experience for all vendors and attendees.
