Queen’s University is pleased to announce that tentative agreements to renew the Collective Agreements between the university and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and its locals 229 (Tradespeople / Maintenance Workers and Caretakers / Custodians),1302 (Library Technicians), and 254 (Lab Technicians) have all been ratified successfully by members of the CUPE bargaining units and the university’s Board of Trustees.
The university announced on Feb. 3 that the parties’ negotiating committees had reached tentative agreements to renew their Collective Agreements pending ratifications by the bargaining unit members of each Local and the university’s Board of Trustees.
The ratification processes have concluded successfully.
The renewed collective agreements all have three-year terms: July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2027. The Human Resources department will soon announce information sessions for supervisors and administrators where details of the renewed agreements will be discussed.
Some highlights of the Collective Agreements include
- Across the Board (ATB) increases of between 2.75 per cent and 3 per cent in Year 1, and between 2 per cent and 2.25 per cent in Years 2 and 3;
- The introduction of market adjustments, where needed, to ensure that employees are being fairly compensated;
- Enhancements to the university’s Tuition Assistance Program; and,
- Commitments to process changes that will benefit employees and the university.
The university is also pleased to note that Aramark, which employs CUPE food services workers on the Queen’s University campus, also reached a tentative agreement with CUPE to renew its Collective Agreement and it has been successfully ratified by Aramark and CUPE bargaining unit members.
The university respects the collective bargaining process, values the work of its CUPE members and appreciates the efforts of all concerned in bringing the process to a successful conclusion.
