The No. 3 Gaels (3-1) romped to a 74-10 win over the Trent Excalibur (2-2) Saturday on Nixon Field.

The Gaels showed offensive dominance early on and with some beautiful passing, they pushed past the Excalibur defensive line and Karley Heyman put the first try on the board. Gillian Pegg followed quickly with a try of her own.

Lauren McEwen then scored the third try before the Gaels closed the half with tries from Danielle Underwood and Miranda Siefert. McEwen converted all five tries, giving the Gaels a lead of 35-0 at half.

Trent added another try but the Gaels were able to add tries from Ryan, Chown and Hannah VanLuven putting the final score at 74-10.

With 24 points in the game, McEwen now has 164 in her career, a new team record as she passes former Gael Andrea Wadsworth.

Men’s Rugby

The Gaels men’s rugby squad (3-1) lost their first game in over two years, including regular season and playoff games, on Sunday, falling 18-13 against the McMaster Marauders (5-0).

The Marauders were able to squeeze in another try before halftime, leaving the Gaels trailing 12-10 at the break.

The Gaels opened the second half with another penalty kick by Worsley for a 13-12 lead. The remainder of the game was full of back-and-forth action, with Jamie Leveridge of the Marauders converting on two penalty kicks, allowing McMaster to pull away from the Gaels.

The Gaels grabbed the lead in the third minute on a goal from Tanko Bacelic but Trent knotted the score in the 33rd minute, after Marlon Adams buried a strike off a throw in.

The second half was dominated by strong defensive play from both sides and the score remained the same.
