In communities across Canada, Jan. 29 is commemorated as the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia.
Events are being held in Kingston and at Queen’s University to mark the day, and honour the victims and survivors of the attack that took place on Jan. 29, 2017.
On campus, a special panel discussion is being hosted by Muslim Societies-Global Perspectives, featuring professors Fauzia Husain (Sociology), Ariel Salzmann (History) and Adnan Husain (History/Religion). The panelists will share reflections six years on from the Quebec City Mosque Massacre and will then moderate a discussion about Islamophobia.
The event is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 30 at 6-7:30 p.m. in Mackintosh-Corry Hall, Rm. D214. All are welcome to attend and share their thoughts and experiences.
On Sunday, Jan. 29 members of the interfaith community will be hosted by the Islamic Society of Kingston at the Islamic Centre of Kingston (1477 Sydenham Rd) for prayers in remembrance of the victims of the shooting.
Throughout Sunday, City Hall will also be illuminated in green and purple to in recognition of the day of remembrance and those who have suffered.
