Every year, the Ban Righ Centre at Queen’s provides supports and services to mature women students who are back at school after a time away.
It is a diverse group striving to fulfill their educational goals while juggling a myriad of responsibilities.
To honour individuals who provide invaluable help to these students, the Ban Righ Foundation has created two awards – one to recognize a Queen’s faculty member whose mentorship and knowledge-sharing has inspired students, and one whose leadership has fostered opportunities and made a positive contribution to the Kingston community.
Nominations for the 2017 Ban Righ Foundation Mentorship Award and the Ban Righ Foundation Leadership Award are being accepted until June 30.
“The response to these awards has been tremendous,” says Ban Righ Foundation Co-chair, Julie McLachlan. “We are so pleased to have the opportunity to honour two women who have given their time, wisdom and support to helping our students succeed.”

The award recipients will be celebrated at The Ban Righ Foundation Inspiring Women: An Evening at the Isabel on Friday, Oct. 20, from 7:30-10 pm. The free event will include a performance by Juno Award and Canadian Folk Music Award recipient, singer-songwriter, Lynn Miles, a talk from inspiring alumna , and music from She Sings choir.
“We look forward to celebrating the recipients’ contributions to student wellness and success in the fall,” says Ban Righ Centre Director Carole Morrison. “The event is moving and empowering; it is an opportunity for faculty, staff, students, donors, and friends of the Centre to gather together and recognize the impact that individuals can have in the lives of our students and community.”
