The Vice-Principal Research (VPR) Portfolio has launched a new series of online modules to support researchers incorporating accessibility into their research programs. The 60 to 90-minute modules provide valuable insights and practical strategies for fostering more inclusive research environments.

Course 1 focuses on “Understanding Disability and Ableism,” while Course 2 focuses on “Defining Accessibility and Accessible Research.” Faculty, students, and research staff are encouraged to explore the self-paced modules, and to reflect on their own work through an accessibility lens. Both modules are also available to the external community. To access the courses, visit the Accessibility in Research Training webpage.

These new resources build on VPR’s ongoing commitment to Indigenization – Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility and Anti-Racism (I-EDIAA) in research. "Inclusive excellence in research means increasing our capacity to add a wider range of voices, perspectives and skillsets to the table," says Nancy Ross, Vice-Principal Research.

Those interested in learning more about I-EDIAA in research can also access the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Research modules launched by VPR and the Human Rights and Equity Office (HREO) in 2022, which provide guidance on embedding inclusivity at all stages of the research process. Examples of other resources available across campus include the , created by the VPR, the podcast series , led by the Carbon to Metal Coating Institute, and the  – a resource for incorporating research equity principles in labs and group settings co-developed by HREO and the McDonald Institute. The DEAP Tool for Researchers is currently available in a workbook form and will be launched soon as an online interface.
