Men's hockey team picks up win, OT loss against Lakehead

The following is a roundup of results for the Queen’s Gaels teams that were in action over the weekend.

Men’s Hockey

The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ men's hockey team earned three of four points against the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Memorial Centre.

The Gaels opened with a 6-0 win on Friday but lost 7-6 in overtime in the rematch.

Kevin Baillie picked up his first shutout of the season in the opener.

Darcy Greenaway finished the weekend with three goals and a pair of assists while Spencer Abraham picked up four helpers on Saturday.

The Gaels (7-5-1) return to action Friday when they take on the Nipissing Lakers (7-6-1). Puck drop is set for 7:30 pm at the Memorial Centre.

Women’s Hockey

The No. 5 Queen’s Gaels women’s hockey team were on the road and picked up a split, beating the No. 8 Laurier Golden Hawks 5-4 in overtime Saturday only to lose 2-1 to the Waterloo Warriors the next day.

Addi Halladay netted the power-play winner against Laurier and Taryn Pilon had the lone goal against Waterloo.

The Gaels (8-2-2) return to action Saturday afternoon when they battle the Windsor Lancers (8-2-2). Puck drop is set for 3:30 pm at the Memorial Centre.

Women’s Basketball

The No. 10 Queen’s Gaels women’s basketball team (2-3) took to the road for the weekend, picking up a win and a loss.

The Gaels topped the Guelph Gryphons 65-55 on Friday but were then upset 73-64 Saturday by the Brock Badgers.

Emily Hazlett had a double-double against Brock with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jenny Wright led the way versus Guelph with 15 points.

Catch the Gaels back in action Nov. 26 when they host the York Lions at 6 pm in the ARC Main Gym.

Men’s Basketball

The Queen’s Gaels men’s basketball team (0-5) remains winless after losing in overtime 98-89 against the Brock Badgers (2-3) on Saturday and 63-56 to the Guelph Gryphons (2-3) on Friday.

Greg Faulkner led the Gaels with a double-double in each game – 40 points and 13 rebounds against Brock and 18 points and 16 rebounds against Guelph.

The Gaels host the York Lions Nov. 26. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 pm in the ARC Main Gym.

Women’s Volleyball

The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Gaels women’s volleyball squad (6-3) are on a three-game win streak.

The team picked up a pair of straight-set wins over the weekend, beating the Brock Badgers (5-6), 25-9, 25-17 and 25-11, on Saturday and the Lakehead Thunderwolves (1-8), 25-16, 25-14, 25-22, on Friday.

Niki Slikboer was strong in both games, finishing with seven kills, seven total blocks and an ace against Brock and eight kills and one serving ace versus Lakehead. Brett Hagarty had a monster night against Lakehead with a double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs.

The Gaels are back in action next weekend when they travel to Toronto on Saturday to take on York.

Men’s Volleyball

The Queen’s Gaels men's volleyball team (4-4) dominated the RMC Paladins (0-8) in a four-set win (3-1), 25-10, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-9.

The Gaels were led by Markus Trence as he lit up the court with a game-high of 16 kills adding eight digs and two solo blocks. Aidan Roos was just as strong with an incredible eight serving aces along with eight kills and six blocks.

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ is back in action in Toronto Friday as they face the York Lions at 2 pm.
