A little Thrive to boost your February

February can be a tough month at the best of times – winter drags on, shorter daylight hours, and understanding we are currently limited in social interaction.

With this in mind, Queen’s Human Resources is hosting a Thrive boost for the second week of February (Feb. 8-12).

Thrive Week is an annual event hosted in November aimed at improving the mental health and well-being of Queen’s staff and faculty, while also highlighting the resources that are available to all community members.

But with the COVID-19 pandemic continuing, connecting the Queen’s community is more important than ever.

“The pandemic has increased the need for well-being inspired initiatives on campus and Human Resources is working hard to meet the needs of the Queen’s community,” says Steve Millan, Associate Vice-Principal (Human Resources). “A little boost will certainly help and we have organized a great list of fun, informative, and interactive events that will get us all thinking more about the skills and resources we require to thrive throughout the year.”

The annual Thrive Week has proven popular and a survey after the most recent event showed that not only is there continuing interest in participating but a positive impact on mental wellbeing as well.

“Following the most recent Thrive Week in November we surveyed our participants to see if there was interest in adding to the program. The response was incredibly positive,” says Sydney Downey, Associate Director, Return to Work & Accommodation Services, Human Resources. “It was nearly unanimous that people saw benefit in Thrive Week and that they were interested in attending events throughout the year.”

This February Thrive boost will once again be hosted remotely and will feature a keynote talk. , a motivational speaker who also offers a healthy dose of humour, will be speaking on Feb. 11 at 9 a.m. Her program “You Gotta Laugh: A Pandemic Pick Me Up” is packed with laughs about how things have changed thanks to the pandemic and offers some ways to see the lighter side of life to nurture our mental and physical wellbeing.
