Gaels teams in action ahead of winter break

In the final weekend of action before the winter break, numerous ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Gaels teams are in action at home and on the road. Here's a quick look at who is competing.

Women's Basketball

The Queen’s Gaels women’s basketball squad (3-3) are coming off a 73-38 pummeling of the York Lions (0-6) on Wednesday and host the Algoma Thunderbirds (0-5) on Friday at 6 pm in the ARC main gym. In the victory, the Gaels were led by Jenny Wright, who has been a powerhouse this season, putting up 12 points. Abby Dixon had a strong performance as well with 10 points and five rebounds, she was matched by Emily Hazlett who also scored 10 points and contributed four assists.

Men's Basketball

The Queen’s Gaels men’s basketball team (1-5) picked up their first win on Wednesday, downing the York Lions (2-4) 86-84. They will look to make it two in a row as they host the Algoama Thunderbirds (0-5) on Friday at 8 pm in the ARC main gym. On Wednesday, the Gaels were led by Greg Faulkner with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists. ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ saw strong performances from Ryall Stroud with 13 points and Mike Shoveller with 12 points

Women's Hockey

The No. 6 Queen’s Gaels women's hockey team (8-2-2) has a tough challenge at home ahead of them as they host the Windsor Lancers (8-2-2) on Saturday at 3:30 pm and the No.4 Western Mustangs (11-0-1) on Sunday at 2:30 pm at the Memorial Centre. There could be a lot of movement in the CIS Top 10 amongst these OUA schools depending on the results of these two games. Forward Taryn Pilon is ranked seventh in the CIS with a total of 15 points for the Gaels, including seven goals, three of them game-winners.   

Men's Hockey

The Queen’s Gaels men's hockey team (7-5-1) welcomes a pair or northern schools to Kingston as they host the Nipissing Lakers (8-6-1) on Friday at 7:30 pm and the Laurentian Voyageurs (8-5-2) on Saturday at 7:30 pm, with both games at the Memorial Centre. Currently, Spencer Abraham ranks ninth in the CIS with 14 assists for ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ and 27th overall with 17 points.

Women's Volleyball

The Queen’s Gaels women’s volleyball team (6-3) hits the road as they play the York Lions (4-4) on Saturday at noon and Nipissing Lakers (3-5) on Sunday at noon as they look to extend their three-game win streak. ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ ranks fourth in the CIS with 17.19 digs per set and on defence Niki Slikboer is tied for fifth in the CIS with a total of 17 solo blocks.

Men's Volleyball

The Queen’s Gaels men’s volleyball team (4-4) wrap up the fall half of their season as they hit the road to play the York Lions (5-3) on Saturday at 2 pm and the Nipissing Lakers (1-7) on Sunday at 2 pm. ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ is currently ranked first in the CIS for digs averaging 11.33 per set and Ivo Dramov is strongly contributing to that as he is ranked second in the CIS averaging 3.07 digs per set.   

Water Polo

This weekend the Queen’s Gaels water polo teams head to Toronto to compete in both the men's and women's water polo OUA Championships from Friday until Sunday. The Gaels will be looking to improve on last year's results where both men's and women's teams placed fifth.
