Gaels rugby teams host rivals on Saturday

¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Gaels teams will be competing throughout the weekend. Here's a quick look at when and where to catch your Gaels in action at home, or how to follow them on the road.

Game of the Week
Women's Rugby

The defending champion women's rugby team will close out the regular season at home this Saturday night against the Western Mustangs at 7 pm on Nixon Field. The last time the Gaels faced Western was last season when they beat the Mustangs 30-15 in the OUA semis, advancing them into the OUA championship game. Last weekend, the No.4 Gaels defeated Trent 74-10. Lauren McEwen finished the game with 24 points, setting a new team record with 164 points in her Gaels career. Come out and support the Gaels in their final league game of this season under the lights on Nixon Field.

Men's Rugby
This Saturday the Gaels host the Guelph Gryphons at 1 pm on Nixon Field. Last week the Gaels suffered first loss in two years, falling 18-13 to the undefeated McMaster Marauders. The Gaels fought hard against the Marauders with David Worsley and James Dent bringing in the Gaels points for the game. Last season the Gaels beat Guelph 22-3, and this year ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ will be looking to hand the Gryphons their first loss of the season.

Women's Soccer
This week women's soccer team plays three road games. The Gaels drew 1-1 with Carleton on Wednesday, on captain Jessie de Boer’s strike. The team now heads north to play Laurentian at noon on Saturday and Nipissing, also at noon, on Sunday. Earlier this season, the Gaels hosted Laurentian and Nipissing and blanked both teams. In a big win against the Trent Excalibur last weekend, the Gaels came out on top 4-0, with de Boer scoring two goals.

Men's Soccer
The men's soccer team plays three games are also on the road this week. On Wednesday, they got things rolling with a big-2-0 win over Carleton. The team will be headed to Sudbury on Saturday to play Laurentian at 2:15pm and North Bay on Sunday to play Nipissing at 2:15pm. Earlier this season ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ had a shutout weekend against Laurentian and Nipissing, getting 6 points for the two wins. Last weekend, forward Eric Koskins (Richmond Hill, Ont.) was an impact player for the Gaels, scoring one goal on Saturday and an assist on Sunday.

Women's Basketball
This weekend ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ hosts the Tindall Invitational Tournament at the Athletics and Recreation Centre. The Gaels are in action three times, as they play Acadia on Friday at 6 pm, Laval on Saturday at 2 pm, and Thompson Rivers on Sunday at 2 pm.

Men's Basketball
The men’s team is also hosting the Tindall Invitational Tournament at the Athletics and Recreation Centre. The Gaels take on Guelph on Friday at 8 pm, Trinity Western on Saturday at 4 pm, and McGill on Sunday at 4 pm.

Rowing
The next regatta for the Gaels, as well as the Novice races and Overall ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥-McGill title, will be at the Head of the Trent this Saturday at 9 am. Last week ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ came out on top with their first race of the season at the Head of the Rideau Regatta in Ottawa. The Gaels took home the Kandahar Trophy for the top university team overall, edging out Trent by a single point. ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ also took home several medals in a grueling 6-km technical course.

Cross Country
This Saturday at 10 am the Gaels, with both the men and women at No.7 in the CIS rankings, will be competing at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

Exhibition
Women's Hockey

This weekend the Gaels head to Peterborough to play Brock on Saturday at 4 pm. This is the last exhibition game before the Gaels start their season at home next Saturday, Oct. 11, against Nipissing.

Men's Hockey
The Gaels head south of the border to play two exhibition games against Colgate University on Saturday at 7 pm and Clarkson University on Sunday at 2:30 pm. These will be the last exhibition games before the Gaels start the regular season at home next Friday, Oct. 10, against No. 8 McGill.
