Earlier this month, Graham Construction Limited officially turned the newly renovated John Deutsch University Centre (JDUC) back over to Queen’s University. With construction complete and all required inspections passed, the JDUC is set to resume its role as the heart of student life on campus. The building will officially open to students and the Queen’s community on May 5, 2025.
The project includes both a renovated historic section, completed in February, and a brand-new wing that has just been completed. The residence portion of the project opened in August 2024. Despite the historic section being completed in February, the University in consultation with the stakeholders including student governments, held off on opening the building until the full project was complete so that once open students would be able to enjoy the entire building.
The revitalized JDUC will house the , the , the Office of the Rector, the Student Experience Office, and a new Health Promotion and Peer Support Centre. Additionally, more than 100 student clubs will find space within the building, alongside a print and copy centre, 6,000 square feet of new public study spaces, and an expanded Queen’s Pub with a patio. The Brew and Tricolour Outlet will also see increased space and services.
Individual occupants will move in over the next month in preparation for the May 5 public opening. The Queen’s Pub is scheduled to open on June 3 , 2025, while three new retail food locations will wait until the start of the fall term to begin operations.
