A quick look at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Gaels teams in OUA action this past weekend:

Men’s Hockey

The No. 8 ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Gaels (13-4-1) defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks (12-5-1) 4-1 on Friday night in OUA Men’s Hockey action at Kingston’s Memorial Centre.

Prior to puck-drop Gaels goaltender Kevin Bailie was honoured with the Murray Douglas Scholarship for the third consecutive year.

Murray Douglas (Com’72) and Donna Douglas (Artsci’73) established the award to recognize the academic and athletic excellence of a varsity hockey player at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. Murray played varsity hockey for the Gaels from 1968 to 1972 and continues to be one of the Gaels most active alumni, making significant contributions to the program year after year. His continued interest in Queen’s hockey stems not only from his playing days, but largely due to the work of Dave Descent, the former Gael Force president, who acted as the varsity hockey manager during Murray's days at Queen’s.

The award is designed to recognize excellence in both athletics and academics, as well to recognize an individual who leads by example and is looked up to by his teammates.

Ryan Bloom, Warren Steele, Spencer Abraham and Harrison Hendrix scored for the Gaels.

Women’s Hockey

The Queen’s Gaels (7-1-6-0) defeated the No. 7 Nipissing Lakers (8-2-2-1) 3-2 on Friday in OUA women's hockey action from North Bay.

Katrina Manoukarakis, Kyla Crouse, and Hailey Wilson scored for the Gaels while Stephanie Pascal had a big game in net with 24 saves.

On Saturday, the Gaels traveled to Sudbury where they defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs (6-0-7-0) 4-3.

Jessica Wakefield scored a pair of goals in the second period while Clare McKellar and Addi Halladay also found the back of the net for the Gaels.

Pascal made 33 saves for her second win of the weekend.

Women’s Basketball

The Queen’s Gaels women's basketball team concluded their road trip to start the New Year with a convincing 73-56 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday.

Abby Dixon tallied a game-high 15 points, shooting 4-of-7 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line. The fourth-year guard added four assists, while Emily Hazlett finished the contest one point shy of a double-double, dropping nine while adding 10 rebounds. Andrea Priamo added eight points, while Robyn Pearson picked up six points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the U Sports No. 5-ranked Gaels (8-0), as they handed the No. 7-ranked Lancers (8-2) just their second loss of the season.

In London on Friday the Gaels ran to a convincing road victory, toppling the Western Mustangs 69-49. Priamo netted 15 points and Veronika Lavergne added 12 points with six rebounds.

Men’s Basketball

Sukhpreet Singh finished with a team-high 16 points, adding six points and four steals. Tanner Graham added 14 points and eight rebounds, and Iheadindu recorded 12 points, all of which came from beyond the three-point arc.

On Saturday, the Gaels fought back from an early 20-point deficit, but came up just short 78-77 against the Windsor Lancers. Tanner Graham led the way with a game-high 26 points and Singh added 22 points with five rebounds and six assists.
