Queen’s University is celebrating the exceptional achievement of an annual student-led initiative that raises important funds for cancer research.

On March 14, 2024, members of the Queen’s Commerce and Smith Engineering hockey teams faced off in front of a sold out crowd in downtown Kingston in the seventh annual Cure Cancer Classic.

The rivalry game at Slush Puppie Place raised $338,344 after a dollar-for-dollar match through the Canadian Cancer Society, contributing to a record-breaking annual total of $624,103. These funds will directly support cancer research initiatives led by the Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG) which is headquartered at Queen’s University’s Cancer Research Institute.

Commerce clinched a 7-3 victory over Engineering, adding another chapter to their storied rivalry. However, the true success of the evening was the collective effort to raise funds for cancer research.
