Earlier today the AMS issued a news release regarding the proposed Reunion Street Festival, to be held during Homecoming weekend. The following is a statement about the event from Vice-Principal (Advancement) Tom Harris.

The university and AMS share a common goal of ensuring a safe and respectful Homecoming weekend for all participants. As such, the university is supportive of the AMS’ efforts to establish a festival that would facilitate student and alumni interaction during this weekend, and will support the endeavor with university resources such as staff time and expertise. This pilot project is subject to several conditions set out by the university, including the involvement of a planning and oversight committee comprised of representatives from several university departments. The AMS will also be working with and seeking approval from city partners, including council and emergency services. Last year’s Homecoming was a mostly successful event, but there were large unsanctioned student gatherings in the near-campus neighbourhood. The principal has directed that Homecoming must be a safe and respectful event for the Queen’s and Kingston communities and all events, including the Reunion Street Festival, will be planned with that in mind.
