Queen’s University’s School of Nursing has received a seven-year accreditation from the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN), the highest level of accreditation possible.

The CASN is the official accrediting body for university nursing programs in Canada. It recently granted the seven-year accreditation to both Queen’s two- and four-year undergraduate nursing programs, as well as to the School of Nursing overall.

“This accreditation is the highest designation possible and is a crystal clear reflection of the excellence of our School of Nursing,” says Richard Reznick, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. “Congratulations are due to all of the school’s faculty and staff, who continually strive to deliver the best possible nursing education.”

The accreditation process involves a self-study of each program and of the academic unit as a whole. A two to three day site visit is followed by a written report that is submitted to the CASN Accreditation Bureau, which makes the final decision on the accreditation status and term.

“Queen’s School of Nursing is committed to an exceptional nursing education that is rooted in art, science and clinical rotations that allow the integration of theory and practice,” says Jennifer Medves, Director of the School of Nursing and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. “The seven-year accreditation re-affirms our leadership in Canada and will help us continue to attract the best and brightest future nurses.”
