A union certification vote was conducted on April 30 by the Ontario Labor Relations Board (OLRB) in response to an application by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) to represent certain graduate students who receive monies for research assistance. The OLBR will likely not count the votes until it has resolved the issue of whether graduate students who perform research assistance as a part of their graduate program will be included in the proposed bargaining unit.
The OLRB has scheduled a meeting with the university and PSAC to be convened by an OLRB labour relations officer on May 21. Hearings before the OLRB will likely follow. It is anticipated that it will be a few months before the OLRB makes a ruling and counts the votes.
Updates will be posted on the Queen’s News Centre as they become available.
