On Sunday, September 1, more than 3,600 first-year students will move into university residences. Move-in day signals the start of a new school year and kicks off the annual orientation week.
“There’s always a lot of excitement and energy as we welcome new students to campus on move-in day,” says Ann Tierney, Vice-Provost and Dean of Student Affairs. “The university has many programs and resources to help facilitate a smooth transition for students.”
Residence staff have been working throughout the summer to plan move-in day – preparing bedrooms, answering a myriad of questions, and organizing staff and upper year students to greet new students and their parents when they arrive.
Parents can attend one of three information sessions on move-in day: at 10 am or 1:30 pm at Grant Hall on main campus, or at 11:30 am at Duncan McArthur auditorium on west campus. These sessions provide parents and guardians with important information to help support students as they transition personally, socially, culturally and academically to university life.
To keep everyone’s energy up, a complimentary brunch is provided to all new students and their families at all three dining halls (Ban Righ, Leonard and Jean Royce) from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm.
Some streets around the residences, including Bader Lane and Stuart Street, will be re-routed as one-way on September 1 between 7 am and 3 pm to accommodate the extra traffic throughout the day. A map showing the routes and affected streets is available on the Residences website.
The underground parking lot below Tindall Field (at Union and Albert Streets), along with all surface parking lots, will be open and free of charge on September 1.
